i've got ich or some similar parasite in my main tank. i'm really concerned about how to treat it since i've got both fry and my nice L-200s in the tank. plus i have to leave town for a week on friday and right now i've not got anyone to look after my fish.

two of the plecs look fine, but one of them has little gold spots where gold spots shouldn't be. the krib fry are exhibiting little white spots on their fins, so i'm guessing that the yellow tone is from the plec's green skin? or might it be something else needing a different type of treatment? :/

here are my big questions:
1 ) are the L-200s sensitive to any medication?
2 ) should i turn the temperature up?
3 ) can anyone recommend a good ich med available in the US?

Please, any advice would be appreciated!!

I've used Interpet No. 6 (on my L200 and also other plecs) with no probs at all - at full dose and directions. I've never treated any other way so can't really give other founded advice as such.

At work we use FMG on all our stock that gets ich
(FMG= Formeldahide and Malachite green made by NT labs)

how much risk do i run if i elevate the temperature to 88 degF for two weeks? that'd kill both the plecos and the ich, wouldn't it... :/

mmm I think that's too high.
During the heatwave we had in London (UK) my tanks were around 86 and all my fish were fine and did not appear stressed. But I think it's too high to consistently (well for like 2 weeks) keep it that high constantly.

i was afraid of that.

well, i've got my bf purchasing me a week's worth of Mardel Maracide... here's hoping! (how long's that Interpet stuff good for? depending on what happens here, i might try stockpiling some of that...)

88 is too high. Turn the tank up to about 81F.

There are various quite good WS3 treatments on the market but if you can get it, King British WS3 White Spot treatment is the best I have used. That, combined with a couple of water changes usually does the trick. Just catch it now whilst you think you have it. Don't wait!

i'm acting as fast as i can :/ between exams and planning to go home for the break, i'm swamped. i think my fish have esp--they always seem to get sick when i'm stressed.

i'm in the US, so i don't have access to Interpet, King British or most of the other meds you guys recommend. wuv pointed me to the Mardel Maracide as something she's used with betta fry; i figure that if betta fry don't keel over from it, my fish should do ok.

but this has been such a horrible experience of being unprepared that i'm going to import some British meds just as soon as i figure out what to get.

King British WS3 allllll the way...

I hope you can find a good enough treatment for now though, It would be a shame to loose some beautiful fish.
