Kuhli loaches with shrimp?

Hi all, after the craziness with te virus I will be getting new fish. I'll be getting about 4 kuhlis and I've been hearing that kuhlis will eat shrimp.
I have a high population of cherry shrimp, juvies and adults, I have a vamp shrimp (around 1 1/2" - 2") and two amano shrimp (1") and I also would like to throw in couple of bamboo shrimp.
I know this is a stupid question, I know that they'll be fine together, but I just want to make sure

They never touched any of my shrimp. I did have a pretty sizeable colony in the first place, but their numbers continued to grow after the introduction of the loaches.

I would add more kuhlis than just 4 though. They are social fish and I found they are more active when in greater numbers. They do hide quite a bit.

Should be fine... definitely add more though. I would say at least 6

Kuhlis need a minimum 20 gallon, and a minimum of 6... but to answer your question, they should leave your adult shrimp alone. The odd baby shrimp would be on ths menu, but theyre more scavengers than hunters so they wont make a dent with your shrimp.

Ive kept mine with ghost shrimp of varying sizes just fine. I keep kuhli, java, and p doriae with no issues with shrimp. They dont bother my bamboo shrimp either, they even hang out together during the day under the same logs.


Give them a lot of hiding places and you will see them more. Leaf litter and narrow spaces under rocks and driftwood.

How big would they get then? The larges I saw on YouTube was 10cm and was really fat. I'm sure my tank size is over 20 gallons for 100%.
I do have some rocks and around my area there are some dried up little leaves from bushes up to small branches and to small twigs.
Leaf litter and branches were already in my head before the kuhli idea
How would I prepare the leaf litter and the branches and twigs? Are those shrimp safe?

Shrimp will love leaf litter, since they grow biofilm. If they grow a white slime its normal with new litter added to the tank. The shrimp and some fish will eat it.

Oak, beech, maple are safe to use. Oak and beech are best though. Or, buy indian almond leaves.

If you can make loose piles of leaves, the loaches will hang out inside it. As for arranging the rocks, making little caves, even if only a couple centimeters of a gap. If you lean them against each other, they will like that too. Mine absolutely love hollow logs, so if you can get any driftwood thats flat and hollow, theyd be over the moon. I have 15 loaches and ALL of them cram under this one log i have during the day. Its kinda funny.

But here are some examples, they will squeeze themselves into any small gap they find. So look for a filter guard... ive had them get wedged inside before.

As for size, they usually get 3-4 inches long. Just dont get dojo loaches or weather loaches as they get huge and are colder water fish. Stick with kuhlis or javas (if only going for 7 fish, pick only one species)

Thanks, I'm not sure where I can get maple, beech or oak leaves now, but I know where branches are
And how do I prepare them?
As for the filter cover, I have a fine mesh that I could use. Its hole are really small, the mesh is loach proof safe mesh lol

Itll be fine as long as its too small for them to squeeze through. Or use prefilter sponges

For how long?

My LFS sells anubias on a coconut shell which is hollow. Would it be great?
Or would they be over the moon?
Would I be still be able to get cories?

Loaches I think. I will get as many hiding places as I can.
I will make a carpet out of maple leaves and I will be putting lots of plants in betweens. I'll get the coconut hut. A Loach Hut
