I saw some kribs finally !!! But there were some smaller fish and some larger ones .... the larger ones all had charcoal black stripes and all the ones I saw had a dot on their tail ...... but the smaller ones had alot lighter stripes but no markings ..... Which were the kribs ???

I think both of them were KRIBS coz thats how you sex them

MALE=CARHCOAL LINE,DIMOND SHAPED TAIL,SPOTS ON FINS AND BIGGER

FEMALE=NO SPOTS , CIRLEC TAIL , RED TUMMY AND SMALLER

I hope this helps you out coz KRIBS are great fish and easy to breed :D

It looks like I may go get a few then !!!!!!!!!! They will be in a 30 g. with 2 swords ... a pleco and a sailfin molly ....... Any advice ??? I will add a few pots

Heres some tips :D
#Put some gravel in the pots
#You could add tons more fish(Look at my SIG)
#Fed Live Foods to Condition them
#Have 2 or 3 smaller pots rather then 1 bigger pot
#My kribs felt more secure when i add LILYGRASS around the pots

I hope this Works for you and keep us posted

619 Fish God, sorry but I have to correct some things you said.....

"MALE=CARHCOAL LINE,DIMOND SHAPED TAIL,SPOTS ON FINS AND BIGGER
FEMALE=NO SPOTS , CIRLEC TAIL , RED TUMMY AND SMALLER"

Not true....
First: Males and females both will have spots, although not all of them. I've never had a male with spots, but all of my females have had them. I've SEEN males with spots, but you can't sex them that way.

Second: Males and females both will show tummy color, pink, lavender, purple, can't sex them "truely" that way, either. Although the female will show MORE tummy color during spawing, My first male used to blush lavendar all over.

Third: All Kribs have a lateral line. Definately can't sex them that way.

From my experiences over the last 3 years, the EASIEST way to sex Kribs, even as 1/2" juveniles, is by the color on the top edge of the dorsal fin. Males will carry color all the way to the back tip, while females Dorsals will be almost clear at the back tip. This is helpful even before the finnage really grows in on the males, as the color comes in first.

Once they are "adult" and in full finnage, the males will have long pointed dorsal and anal fins that go back prectically to the end of the tail, and the tail (caudel) fin will come to a long point in the middle. Females will have much shorter, rounded off fins, and a round tail.

HTH, willywonka :)

And if you want to look at pics of mine, click on "WWW" below my post and view the Kribensis album. ;)

Looks like I may get me a pair of kribs !!! I looked at yours and yea the females looked like your and two of the males has beautiful fins like yours :) I think you were correct that you can't sex them by color tho :) I will do my best

Can I also add that you shouldn't be putting "tons" more in your tank and that only 1 pair of kribs should be kept in a tank (unless it's massive with plenty of space - I couldn't do it in a 5ft tank) and also that think 616's tank may be overstocked (not necessarily not working) and so should maybe not used as a model.

I always find the sexing of kribs really easy just by looking at them. Males have a more spade shaped tail and longer dorsal. They are longer and thinner and unless in breeding mode are much plainer colour.

Make sure your male is much bigger than the female btw or she is likey to kill him.

Kribs are actually probably the most peaceful african out there(correct me if im wrong) And are as easy to breed as New World Rams, infact and it could ahppen(maybe) that if you put a few of them in a 30 gal and let them pair off and take the rest out

no offense 619 but your tank is over stocked and "breeding" pairs of rams and kribs should not be kept in a 30 gal with other "breeding" pairs and other fish.

Well in his WWW like I said his females are lighter and the males darker so would you say the larger ones were males ??? Post pics of your kribs everyone :)

First of all, Cheesespecialist, those are some NICE Kribs. I'm thinking of getting some Albinos, but rarely see them around here.

Ok, this is the first pair of Kribs I ever had. You can see some fry in the cave opening. This male used to blush lavendar all over his body...so cute :)

First pair's Son w/his fry.....don't ever remove the fry unless you plan on removing them COMPLETELY from the tank....the parents managed to get all the fry out of that breeder before morning....and the person I was giving them too had to be disappointed :sly:

That male was killed by a Beauforti Loach :-( and I just recently replaced him with this one. this is the day I got him so his color isn't that good.

As you can see, NONE of my males have ever had spots, but the females have??

Fish god, I haven't seen anyone doubting you??? Just trying to let people know other ways of sexing them. I don't think you should be offended, and if I've offended you, I apologize :-( Not my intention. Just wanted make sure people didn't get incomplete info :look:

Mamaschild , those kribs are beautiful .

VIP is right about the charcoal colored stripe[ auratus ] wouldn't have a clue on sexing them , kribs look similar , around the head / mouth only IMO , and are more of a brown color where the lateral bar/stripe is concerned.

;) I'll add to the confusion as far as sexing , though not fool proof by any means , I look for males to be a little more slender/longer looking , and females to look shorter and have slight tummy bulge , did anyone already say this :shifty:  as well as the the other indicators mentioned .

They make real great parents as well , the ones [ separate occasions ]I've had would both[ male and female ] heard the fry around the tank .
