the female convict died that the male beat up... now i got an odd # of convicts which is gonna mean trouble... but i put the firemouth in there so hopefully things will be ok..

weird thing...

barely any babies left... ive seen 2 today.. 1 albino baby and 1 reg...

they hang around mom a lot... dont go near dad.. im wondering if he ate the others... yet he still sucks em up and spits em at mom when they come near him... i donno... theres algae for them to eat .. i put in ground up flakes but the male jus eats em... i guess ill have to wait and see what happens... i have room for a fry tank, but im gonna wait and see if the convict eggs hatch that i noticed yesterday... maybe in a few weeks ill start up a fry tank .. if ne of the babies are left

actually.. i just took a look..

i saw about 10... im guessing they are just taking the babies out a few at a time..

they small.. skinny... i fed the parents a lot.. so hopefully they can get some food to them.. i also blew on the flakes on the surface so theyd sink to the bottom so when the babies are roaming around they can pick at em off the rocks..hopefully the babies will get some food

.. the 2 that i been seeing... they jus hang around the parents... all the others jus roam around the bottom.. dont hang around parents... they kinda fat.. i think they still got some yolk left on em.

It doesn't really sound to me as if the parents are eating any babies -- the dad just sounds a bit disinterested. If some still have yolk on them, they may not all be out yet, and perhaps not ready to eat. I guess it's just wait and see.

Fry tanks can work for kribs, I guess, they just aren't usually recommended. Most people seem to enjoy watching the parents care for the babies. You'll have to use your own judgement. I know nothing about convicts, except that they breed prolifically and can be difficult to sell. Are you breeding your cichlids in hopes of selling them?

nope. never planned on selling any of my fish ever...

couldnt see myself giving away any of my fish ever.. or even selling

i have 6..

could always free up 2 10 gallon tanks if needed... so yea..

but the last convict ''baby'' is missing... i shouldnt have removed its parents... the 2 babies are both gone now that the parents were removed... o well i kno now... theres about 40 day old cons now so ill make sure to leave the parents in

Guess we kinda have the same favorite fish species?
I love my kribs and my convicts!! They both have such amazing caracters...

Well, as you seem to be quite a bit ahead of me in breeding them, keep posting what happens with yours please

As for mine: I think the kribs will lay eggs today (that would be their second try), hope they get to the hatching stage this time...

And the convicts seem to go near eachother sometimes, so I guess that's also quite positive?

yea this is my male kribs 2nd time... females 1st.. theres about 10 babies left i think.. following parents around the tank..

the last baby convict from the 1st spawn is still alive... he has jus been hiding...

the few day old con babies havent left their flowerpot yet... their mother is pretty dumb... doesnt really pay attention to them much.. who knows whatll happen to them
