Hi all,

I have just been to my local store and she has a gorgeous tank of Kribs.

There is a beautiful female in there, full off eggs, she has goregous yellow fins and markings, I have asked the owner to keep her for me until I do a bit of research...

Do you think I could keep a pair of Kribs in my tank?

My dad says they are peacful fish and that they would settle ok, but he admits he is not sure how they would behave with the gouramis.

I know they need hiding places especially if I want her to lay eggs...

Do you think I could keep them peacfully in the tank?

a breeding pair of kribs will only be ok in a large community tank.

24 gallons is too small for them, and if you introduce them into your small community, you will find that either the kribs won't breed because they don't feel safe enough or they will try to kill every fish in the tank in order to breed.

that's why when i had a breeding pair of kribs, i put them in a 20 gallon long tank all to themselves.

It all depend's on the fish becasue i kept a 20g flat hex tank and i had the fallowing stocking:
2 albino kribensis
2 swordtail's
1 golly( molly/guppy hybrid)
2 mollies
and a few other fish that arent comming to mind
I do have to adnit that they didnt breed in there, even though there was plent of hiding places and plant's and the water quality was excellent, so it all depend's.

to be fair I wouldnt mix Chocolate Gouramis with anything anywhere near boisterous, which Kribs generally are, especially if they start breeding
behaviour... otherwise I think you would get away with the stocking you have..

Hi,
It depends on the kribs. Some pairs seem to be quite timid whilst others can be right thugs especially when breeding. Mine are fine with a bristlenose and tetras. The bristlenose is bigger than them and armoured and is out of site most of the day, while the tetras are too fast. I would worry about a cory as they occupy the same part of the tank as kribs and they may be seen as an intruder.

Cheers

My breeding Kribs beat up every fish bar my plecs until I moved them to their own tank. They did breed though!

Kribs are peaceful for Cichlids which is different from being peaceful per se.

I wouldn't keep them with chocolate gourami thats for sure

Hi folks, thanks for the replys. :good:

I got the kribs, and introduced them to the tank after moving the aquascape about and adding new coconut caves.

The cory and the kribs get on fine , they just swim over the top of each other, and the kribs don't bother the Gourami's at all. :)

The spend most of their time chasing each other around the botom of the tank from one cave to another,

Not sure if the female will breed, not too concerend if she doesnt,

She has amazin coulourin and so does her boyfriend, maybe if I want them to breed I will set up another tank, not right now though!

Thanks again
