Kribensis Fry

Blimey Pete, YOU'VE GOT IT BAD!!!

Yeah, I think I may have lol :)

4 tanks... :hey:

Actually, make that 5.
I bought another tank tonight, second hand one, about same size as Roma 125 with cabinet for £60 :D

You're a bogger with the colourful gravel!

LOL, that's the missus mate, not me.
But I still quite like it actually.
Makes a difference from the same old sand, or shingle.

Gonna clean the second hand tank I bought tomorrow & get it ready.
Get some new, different stock for it.

Found out about 2 more really big nice aquatic places near me, so we are gonna give them a look over next few days.

Again, I'll get pics up as soon as I can.

Regards,

Pete

Get some apistos mate, you'll love em!

I've had a look at these mate, & yes, they do look a lovely fish.

May get some when the tanks are ready.

Had a little move around today.

Cleaned out the Roma 125 (water change & general clean-up).

Emptied the Aquael Pearl 40.
Fish from Pearl 40 went into Roma 125.
Pearl 40 is now empty for the time being, as it will go in our daughters bedroom.

Set up the new AquaOne AR-380.
No heater in there at the mo.
It was the last one, out on display, & I forgot it doesn't come with one.
The sales guy didn't even remind me I needed one either.

I didn't get round to cleaning the second hand one I bought last night.
Might get time tomorrow, but have to sort the electrics out in the house.
Removed 2 flourescent strip lights & there are about 6 sets of wires coming down that operate different lights around the kitchen & outside.
None of them now work, so got me work cut out.

Anyway, I'll get it all sorted & pics up after all done.

Regards,

Pete

 Your house sounds like ours mate. The electrics are all over the place. Wires for everything, even for stuff that isn't there!!

Glad you're getting the tanks sorted!

Yeah, it is mate.
Problem I have is when I removed the 2 strip lights, all the wires from each set were twined together, so all reds together, all blacks etc.
I seperated all of the & terminated them all in a terminal block.
Doing this has rendered about 5 other lights useless, so I now have to trace where the switched live comes from, as all the lights will be on a ring.
I can also then find out what set goes to what switch.
So, the flourescent light at one end of the kitchen passes the power to all the other lights that now do not work in the kitchen, like under-cupboard lights etc.
The other flourescent light out in the little room to the back garden served all the outside lights.
Disconnecting this also stopped the outside one's working aswell.
The flourescent lights would have a feed from another light that still works, so I have to find the switched live that serves each flourescent light.
I should then be ab;e to connect all wires back up & get all lights working again.

Glad you're getting the tanks sorted!

Yeah, cheers Dave.

Well, the Pearl 40 might not be set back up for a couple of weeks yet.
We are gonna let our little daughter choose her own fish for it aswell, & teach her how to feed them.

I have to get a heater for the new AR-380 & will prob get that tomorrow.

I will try to clean the second hand one out in a couple of days.
Need to get some baking soda & white vinegar.

I'll keep you informed with pics too.

Regards,

Pete

I am in exactly the same situation as yourself. My kribs have bred and so I have bought a secondary tank for the fry. I am letting it mature as we speak however I would not suggest removing the fry from the parents until they are forced away when the parents mate again. I have done a lot of reading into Kribs and it seems that research shows if you remove the fry too early then they do not socially learn the essentials to breeding and therefore wen the fry breed in the future they will fail to be good parents. This degradation of the fish continues with each generation until the parents completely ignore the fry and they die, hence almost causing an extinction within the species. My advice therefore is leave the fry in with the parents until they are naturally disowned!

Hi mate,

Thanks for your reply.

Hmmmm, interesting.
Well, I have already seperated the parents from the fry.
The fry are in a tank all of their own.

The parents look like they are ready to mate again.
They are flirting around each other & are looking for places to hide & dwell together, like plant pots etc.
It's only been 2 weeks since she hatched her fry.

Anyway, here are some pics of the fry..........

She had about 60, but some got eaten by other fish & some have not passed survival of the fittest.
Only about 20 remain I think.

Enjoy the pics.

Pete

Finally!!! Looking good mate.
Holy cow that gravel is bright!!!
Lol, thanks Dave.
Well, there's only a few in the pics.
Rest are hiding I think.
I've gotta get some gravel for the second hand tank I bought yet.

Any suggestions :D

Gravel?!?! I thought it was toxic waste, sourced from Homer's nuclear plant in the Simpsons!
Well, actually your quite close.
I thought about getting some illuminous paint, bit like the one that Delboy in Only Fools & Horses painted his Mum's headstone with :D

Thanks chaps.

I'll keep you informed of progress.

I'll post a pic of the second hand tank soon, once I get it cleaned.

Kindest Regards,

Pete

Tested water in AR-380 so Krib Fry could be moved in.
All ok, so in they went.

Gave the AR620 a water change today, so we could put the Krib Parents in.
They seem nice & happy.

Left the Roma 125 alone as all ok.

Looks like there may be some more Krib Fry on the way soon :D

Enjoy the pics.

Regards,

Pete

Those clown loaches you have in there are going to grow massive, it will be harder to move them on when they are grown unless you plan on a 4 foot+ tank. I think you best treat yourself to a new tank ;d

Your fry look like mine. Your tank looks like mine. Your fish look like mine.

THANK GOD YOUR GRAVEL DOESN'T!!!

Lol, thanks mate. I might actually just do that :D

Lol, thanks Dave. That had me laughing for ages
The missus wasn't laughing though :)

Anyway, had a bit of a disaster today.
The new smaller tank, AR-380, sprung a leak.
Woke up this morning to find a big puddle of water on the unit.
So, called the company I got it off.
Said, can I bring back just the tank & keep the filter media etc as it is all set up.
They agreed, so moved the Fry to a breeding tank in the AR-620.
Drained down the AR-380 & removed the filter, heater & gravel.
Then took it back & swapped the tank only.
Set new one up, gave it an hour or so, then transferred the fry back into the new AR-380.
All been ok, so looking good.

Oh, & while we were out, we went to another local aquatics & bought some more fish stock.
6x Zebra Danio's.
4x Glowworm Tetra's.
4x Pleaco's.

See pics below......

2 of the Pleco's went into the Roma 125.
They were in with the Kribensis Fry, but I think they ate a couple, so we moved them.

We now only have 6 Fry left.

Might get round to cleaning the second-hand tank tomorrow.

Anyway, enjoy the pics.

Regards,

Pete

Sorry to hear about the loss of the two fry and also the broken tank... I would have pushed for some compensation for the inconvience of having to swap everything around. Even if it was a tub of fish food or the filter media from the new tank so you could have a full set of spares.

You should post a pic of the pleco in the pleco forum so someone can identify him for you so you know what you are dealing with. They will probably outgrow your tanks pretty soon. How long before you buy the AR980?

Glad i made you laugh... send my deepest apologies to the missus... :shifty:
