Male or Female ?

Before everybody jumps up and down I have searched this Forum & the internet. Have found loads of pics & information but none look like this one.

The tail (caudal) fin looks tattered, it should be round or pointed. Is it a new fish that was attacked while at the lfs or is it a trick of the camara. Females will usually have a pink tint to the belly, males will lack the tint and have a more pointed caudal fin.

As jflowers says, the tail fin will be shaped like the Ace of Spades for a male, whilst the female's isn't pointed. Females are also broader looking at them from above, but of course this only helps if you've two to compare. Females are (at least mine are) brighter and have a brighter pink belly. You may have to wait till the tail grows back though before you can tell for sure. My male is also more streamlined in shape and the females are rounder.

At a guess I would say the fish in the pic is male, but no guarantees!

Jon & Sarah - Thanks for the advice. I see what you mean about its tail, something has had a go at it. Sarah - All the sites I have been on none said about the different shape of the tail fin between the male and female 'ace of spades' being a male. The other krib which is a female for sure tail is round the krib in question tail, well the bottom part, is pointed.

Actually, Krib males CAN have a pink/purple tinted Belly....it's one of the things that makes Juveniles hard to sex.

To me, that looks like a male. His Anal Fin is long and pointed. The Dorsal fin is a bit chewed, also.....hopefully it's old damage, not from someone in your tank?

The easiest way I've found to sex them, even as juveniles, is to look at the color on the top edge of the Dorsal fin. Males will carry color all the way to the very tip of the top edge, while females will be almost clear at the back tip of the Dorsal.
