Hi there,

Got a quick question about my Kribs, the female's looking great, really nice gold, yellow, and red colouring, chasing other fish in the tank. The male on the other hand is just plain no colouring, and hiding all the time.

Water stats are OK, PH 7, NH3 0, NO3 0 NO2 0

I'll try to get some pics of them tomorrow.

Thanks

The females tend to be a little more colored compared to the males anyways, but he might also be in shock from the move to the tank, or if he has been like that for a while...you might have a bullying problem, if the female is constantly chasing him around, which would explain why he is constantaly hiding. Watch them carefully when they are both around, it is probably nothing to be worried about.

I too have the same thing. My female has very deep colouration on her belly and is larger than the male (at least I think its a male.) The big female is always chasing the other and hardly gives it a moment's peace. I'm not sure whether the other Krib is male as the pale colour could be due to the fact that its constantly being harrassed.

They've been in the tank together for about 3 days now. Is there a time when I should consider seperating them?

I think the males are being bullied (i had to rehome my breeding pair and their fry to a new tank due to them stressing the entire community tank out "and the fact of the filtration being to powerfull for fry" once placed in the new tank the female instantly rejected her mate and then he just coward in the corner under the fear of being attacked (although he did fight back the smaller female did have the upper hand).

Remember this pair has seen multiple broods together let alone newly introduced. A decent pair that will take to one another can be very hard to come by and a few deaths can happen along the way.

Give them time. If they dont sort it out in a day take the female out move the rocks around and leave the male in there for a few days and then pop the female back in and then he will have athe upper hand and since he will want to mate he will be nice to her and they will becaome a pair again. Hope this helps, ohh yeah Happy New Years!
