krib gone mad?

To get back on the original track a 20 gallon tank is not big enough to keep two species of cichlids in. Cichlids no matter how big or small are still territorial and can be aggressive, IMO there is no such thing as the 100% community safe cichlid. Kribs are one of the most underestimated cichlids there are and can be very aggressive when they want to be, they should not be mixed with the much more delicate Appistogramma and Microgeophagus species from south america.

ummmmm...
why is everyone (well not EVERYONE) going for my throught?
several people have taken it upon themselves to assume that i am argueing or refusing to acknowledge what has been said
i have no idea what is going on.....
i understand what cheese, and the others are saying
i simply said that IMO my tank is not overstocked (not including the ram)
i stated that to me that is not an issue, but the territory between these 2 cichlids may very well be :dunno:
and i beleive everyone when they say that kribs are not full community and that 2 cichlids is too much for my tank
but as soon as i explained my own opinion on the matter (what i was thinking before you all said no dice) everyone took it as ME telling YOU what was actually going on???????
i backed out of the conversation simply because my post was being taken as a bickering match
as much as i love cheese_specialist i beleived her to be in one of her moods where it doesn't matter whos right or wrong, if you talk back heads will roll
so to save our friendship i backed out
then i come back to hear a sarcastic remark from cfc

as i said to cheese
i understand what you are saying,
but i have to somewhat twist you words before i agree

i said this because i wasn't sure about what exactly her concern was about, so i explained about water perams, space, etc.
but apparently she was talking about compatibility
so she stated it as if i was a waste of her time
Don't know why I bother, but...

i even stated:
after all of this i will say my stocking levels are not a concern
it is simply the compatibility of the ram and the krib
,
and added
which i beleive they will be ok
and they are getting along today as i suspected
strictly IMO since this is what i observed
but as i stated at the beginning, if a problem re-arises i will return one of them

i have no idea when my post got twisted but
i am NOT fighting or even disagreeing with anyone
i am trying to leave gracefully
as i feal that people has taken my words as an arguement,
which i assure you they are not

I think you are absolutely right about the tank being overstocked. Even with the inch per gallon rule it's over stocked. That's a lot of fish for a 20g. He's absolutely right on the cichlids being territorial. I have an oscar and a JD and they are VERY territorial to each other and somewhat aggressive. Oscar is always charging Jack with his mouth open. They don't harm each other though. Got a opaline gourami in with them and he has no problems with them whatsoever. Infact until this month he was the bully.

Aw,

You shouldn't worry about that!! I was just being honest, as I would with anyone. I agree I get het up about things but I do it with the best of intentions, it really has nothing to do with mood. I do think that what is happening with your fish is a result of overstocking, perhaps not bioload but on other factors.

Good luck. :)

Awwwww did someone read something they didnt want to know?
cfc this is an international post, and it don't look like everyone is expecting us to act and talk like Americans (pricks). Before anybody get their panties in a ruffle about that comment, I'm in America so I know everyone acts like pricks. All the way from the East cost to the Central states everyone acts like pricks.

One im not American, im English and have never set foot on American soil nor am i ever likely to.

Two, when someone asks a question it is expected that they have asked that question because they would like a answer, if that answer is then one that they dont like i dont expect to see a remark like this

to avoid bickering
i'll just say thanx
smile, nod and back away

good advice had been given and to just say thanks but no thanks is insultive to the people who take their time and effort to try and help others. I will say again as i have said before IF YOU THINK YOU MAY NOT LIKE THE ANSWER DONT ASK THE QUESTION.

By the way if anyone decides to say that thats not very nice from a moderator, NO ONE EVER SAID I WAS NICE, i will give a straight answer to a straight question and if you dont like it its tough.

seriously its sad to see a moderator looking for a fight
now you have decided to be blunt so i will to
I KNOW YOU CAN READ SO WHY DON'T YOU?
i have explained what was going on
your response makes no sense to the situation!
now stop being so rude and read the conversation between
me and cheese
in fact, read it twice
maybe you'll understand then that there was no disagreement
to avoid being repeditive please read
then it would be appreciated if there were no more nasty comments from you

thank you everyone for your responses
i have decided on a plan of rearranging my tanks so that i may keep the ram, only not in that tank

to make matters clearer
my tank IMHO (other then the ram) was not overstocked :)
but the compatibility of 2 cichlids in such a small tank, has possessed a problem
so he will go in another tank and peace will return

EDIT: cheese i agree that it was overstocked in other factors (cichlid factors ;) )
the stocking comment was not in response to what you said

kribs aren't 100% community.
They actually barely qualify for the semi aggressive title.

Ok then, back on track now? Cichlids can tell which fish are cichlids, and they also claim territory, and fight for it. I kept a bolivian ram+ a curviceps in a 20g long for a few months and, my badis badis started more fights with the ram than the other cichlid did :) Rams can't really defend themselves well, so I would suggest either getting a larger tank, or adding more hiding places and plants (real or fake) HTH

pretty full?
try perfectly full
it isn't overstocked
the compatablility other then the ram is perfect
the krib happily shares his so called "territory" with the flying fox and the two of them are far closer in appearance then a RAM and a krib
hehehe :p
kribs and rams have a completely different body shape and finnage
my water perams of this tank are perfect
don't worry guppymonkey
i have years of experience so to go slightly over the 1" of fish per gallon is ok
and i am fully taking into account possible territory or semi-aggression
but i have balanced the tank accordingly (up until the ram)
i have a very complicated bottom (caves, logs, roots and plants)
which have succefully reduced 99% of aggression in the flying fox, the gourami are top dwelling
noone pays any attention to the little herd of khuli loaches
the UDC is noctournal and very sneaky (always camoflages)
the krib WAS the only bottom dwelling fish that is larger but he and the flying fox get along marvelously

like i said above i will return the ram if a problem arises in the next 2 weeks
but the krib is not doing so much nipping to "kill" the fish, even just with stress
in fact the ram just slightly backs up, but does not cower or swim away
and the krib has been almost completely leaving him alone today so far

i would not return the ram simply because she didn't instantly "click" in my tank
even community may fight on the first ady with a new tank mate
Oh yeh, don't mess with the person who is the slave of Pickles the budgie!! :flex:
BTW, Cheese specialist always says your overstocted-
Some person: Ive got a 100 gallon tank with nothing...
Cheese specialist: Overstocked!!!!

Next time if you add cichlids to a tank, get all the cichlids you need. I'd get juveniles so then when they get to your tank they all won't have territories.
