can i put some koi only around 2 with my gold fish in there tank if so would i feed them pellets or falkes

Hi
tanksize would be important to know but

to answer your question I'd say Not really, they would be ok for a few months but would soon need moving to a large outdoor pond
bare in mind koi will grow to at least 12 inches if not a lot more, and can reach lengths of 36" in ponds

ye i understand is there small spices of koi like there is with goldfish

There is no small species of goldfish, Goldfish just happen to be a species that are easily stunted, meaning that if they are kept in small tanks they are forced to slow down their growth which shortens there lives dramatically

Goldfish have an adult size of anywhere between 10 and 14 inches long. As Davo say's, there are NO small or dwarf species of goldfish. There are certainly no dwarf species of Koi. They get truly massive. Please don't put any in a tank. They are a pond fish. And so are goldfish for that matter.

how big is the tank. is my question. i have goldies and koi in a tank, they are doing quite well. ive had them for bout 2 yrs and im about to move them to a bigger tank. im not about to get a pond. they doin quite well.

tank size and fish size are factors to keep in mind. but if they small, being in a tank for a bit wont hurt a thing.

idk what anyone says. ive had great success with them. in a tank.

Yes they would be ok for a few months in a tank. but if kept in that tank you will stunt the growth of the Koi . As already mentioned, koi easily and regularly get to about 3 foot long. THat is a normal adult size. They are a pond fish .

I see even no sense in permanently keeping koi in a tank and not bothering to get a pond for what is categorically a type of large carp, and therefore a POND fish. That is one of the reasons people keep them in ponds. Because they grow so large. Not everybody has a room sized tank for the fish to have the correct swimming and growing space.

I really hope you have such a MASSIVE tank Mike , really I do. Because deliberate stunting is a cruel thing to do to a living thing.

my tank im soon to move them to isnt small. and they arent big right now either. where i live i cant get a pond. City wont allow it :p

im curious to know what was edited out of your comment. and im not a nube to this forum. i just dont post much. for the very same. im in chat more often than not.

no creature should be contained, yet we keep them and breed them in captivity. yet they are wild life. ive had my koi for a 2yrs and a half. and they are doing quite well. books have good information. but somethings we dont know who and what unless we try.

i give my advice according to experience. and what i have been successful with. anything outside of that. is info that isnt useless to anyone. I wont even tell anyone what the employees at my lfs say unless i have put it to the test. Many MANY people say that it will hinder growth. of all livestock that we keep. how much bigger and healthyer will anything be if it wasnt in a tank. or in captivity. yet i like everyone else. i desired to keep what i got. and paid money to get them. and enjoy what i have just as much if not more than anything else. i know not to keep koi in a milk cartin. but who said i gotta have 50,000 pond. in chat i mention that i was looking at a 210 gallon tank, i was told i was a fool. a lady got a 90 gallon pond. no one had a problem with that........ needless to say. i from that day forward will not receive anyones advice unless i ask for it. and at anytime have i ask for it.

i would like to have a pond one day. cant get one where i live. as i had said above. i select my koi and any of my fish according to color and pattern/markings. which cant be enjoyed from a birds eye view. though many people may disagree which is fine. i have my reasons for having them in a tank, so i can enjoy what they look like.

image seeing humans from the top of the head only...

if they live a long time, i will have enjoyed them. if they live a day. i will have enjoyed them. but where everyone think im doing them wrong. ive had success that proves otherwise.

to all. do understand im not mad. or irate. im quite calm actually. text just dont have tone or expression. but speaking my mind like everybody else. and with all do respect. when folk say what they say. they would like to be heard. reguardless if anyone disagrees or not. i would like the same. :good:

If you aren't allowed a pond, why get a very large pond fish? I didn't say your fish weren't "doing well" I said that by keeping them in a tank you have a vastly greater chance of stunting them unless that tank can give them room for swimming when full sized adults.

Yes we keep fish in tanks. but many people have the basic common sense to research the common adult size of the fish when fully grown and buy a tank accordingly. Koi that are 2 1/2 -3 feet long are an average adult size. That is a biological fact. For the fish to grow to the best size possible, you need the biggest environment possible. A large coldwater fish like that needs a large pond. If you aren't allowed a pond, then it will need a VAST tank and excellent filtration. They are huge messy carp .

Ok so you want to see the pretty patterns . But the koi need space to grow properly and by denying them that because you want a better view because you paid for it, is just abhorrent. The idea that your viewing pleasure means more to you than their growing space is appalling.

I edited my previous post because of spelling mistakes. I edited this one in order to bite my tongue.

:shout: dont bite your tongue, that hurts, hehe. i didnt say that you said. its something that alot of people say. in rambling i addressed the General. When any fish gets to large for my tanks. i take them back to the LFS. or sent them to people in the country who have ponds and would rather buy larger items than small.

my lfs are happy for healthy trade ins. i like fish to much to harm them. and have given much study. which is why some things i challenge. so much info can be discarded. at the same time so much is useful. i do thank you for respect of not telling me off, though i couldnt stop you if you did. but say what you goina say. i dont mind giving a listen. what anyone has to say i feel its worth hearing listening. reguardless of how nice or how abbrupted. if 1 need to be put in place. and if a person is right. i will humble. :good: and respect accordingly. and know that anything i have is more than 5 inches. that i keep. though im getting a larger tank. and i also i assist at my lfs. so where many stores dont allow the oppitunity of returning fish or trade ins. that is a plus. its also good for the store. because from whole sell that cant get much over 3 inches. and it be healthy. thats a regional supplyer issue though.
