At one of my lps's there is a tank simply labeled as containing swordtails. There are two marigold swordtails..a male and a female and then there are approx. eight white and orange 'swordtail' females. They appear to be a koi variety perhaps? They're white with orange-ish red on their heads. A couple have the orangish coloration stretching down their dorsals in a straight orange line over down their back. They have short bodies and appear more like a platy to me than a swordtail. Could these girls really be platies and not swordtails? They appear very healthy and are absolutely beautiful but I'd like to know for sure which species they are before buying any.

My other lps down the road also have koi marked swordtails but they're selling theirs as koi swordtails and all of those are albino with an orange spot at both head and tail. They're also very pretty and I'd love to have some of that variety as well however this lps is awful when it comes to fish quality. Most tanks are filled with ick and fungus. Almost all the fish have clamped fins and you can watch them flick themselves against the bottom of the tanks. Yuck! Anyhow...those koi swordtails are all longer bodied. I won't be getting any fish at all from this pet store...they just don't give a hoot about their fish.

Anyhow...could the koi marked fish from the first lps really be koi swordtails...just with short bodies? Do platy even come in a koi variation?

ive only heard of koi swordtails, and there around koi platys. there are tiger platys though thatkinda look simlilar, not much though.

I agree with Spader they're probably swordtails. With the way they cross platies and swords to get new colors and if they are not around yet they soon will be.
