Hi need abit of help on koi if anyone can?

A mate of mine as got a few baby koi he needs to get rid of and as i am starting to build my koi pond in the near future he as ask if i wanted 2 of them. The koi he has ( baby ones ) are not ready to be put in a pond yet ( the size of them and also how cold it is ) what i wanted to no is how fast do koi grow they are only around 2" and i wanted to no how long i will need to get them out into the pond with the size of the tank i have a few tanks i could use all dif sizes but nothing realy big
please note this will not be a full time home for the koi as im not that cruel but as the koi are not ready for a pond yet just wanted to find some more stuff out about it

i was told yesterday that one customer we sold koi to last year, he bought some 2 - 3 inch koi off of us, theyre now 9 inch, so they grow pretty quick, a pair of 2"koi will be ok in a 60 litre for a month, as soon as we get 14C they should be ok to go in

the ponds going to be around 10ft ( maybe 12ft if i can ) by 6ft and 5 ft deep i will not be going no less then 5 ft deep anyway

Sounds cool, sorry just used to people coming into the shop and saying koi pond before explaining its a small water barrel

lol na ive been looking into keeping koi for past year so have realy found out alot of stuff but the only thing i could not realy find out was how fast they grow when babys i do no what you mean tho ive seen alot of ponds with baby koi in that realy you could not keep frogs in ( so small ) i found out thats it best to go aleast 4 ft deep but im going to go 5ft to be safe and also so i dont have to re do the pond in a few years :good:

thanks for your help

There is a koi mag out and if you sign up with them u get a free dvd on koi and stuff we have one realy good dvd

koi dont like being in tanks. if you have to put them in one then make sure you cover most of the glass with something dark and have just a small viewing area.
can you not invest in a 50 - 80 gallon vat for them and put it in the garage?
in anything smaller you will need huge amounts of filtration and oxygen.
they can go in the pond once the temp of it stabilises at around 10-12 c

Cheers people im gonna leave it and wait for my pond to be 100% done and just add fish in the spring the 2 fish that i was gonna have now have a proper nice home as i did not want to rush the pond and its not fair on them if they do grow so thanks for your help 1 more thing i no about koi now :good:

ill get some photos up when all done tho of fish and pond set up so you can all say if you thinks its ok
