Hi it's me again with the constipated Angel. First of all, tried the peas but as he's not eating at the mo he didn't take any (other fish eat them).
Secondly, I have seen this morning that his eyes are swollen and he has a very small area on his right hand side where his scales seem to have 'lifted up'. This area is round but there is no open sore or flesh as such. Could he have caught himself on somthing? :/ He is also spending a considerable amount of time hanging around the surface at the moment looking rather sorry for himself. All water parameters are fine and evryone else is o.k :look:
Any ideas please. Thanks. GM

This sounds like dropsy (swollen body causing the scales to stick up) and pop-eye (swelling in the head causing the eyes to stick out). It is most commonly caused by a bacterial infection, so immediate isolation in a hospital tank and treatment with an antibacterial med is essential.

However, you ought to know that dropsy and pop-eye are very often at the end stage of an illness and the fish very often don't make it :(

Immedeate iso;ation is a definet must.
Go with annas advice but as she said this is usualy the end sign of something and the chances of surviving are slim. Sorry m8. It may be an idea to keep with the melafix in the tank just incase any of the other fish have the same ailment. I would only recommend using antibiotics in the main tank when you know there is a problem as the fish/ailmanets will become immune to the antibiotics. (Same idea as humans). All fish carry certain nasties, but they only do what they do when certain conditions are met. like the fish being stressed and the immune system not working correctly.

pop-eye can be treated with Maracyn and Maracyn2. Dropsey isn't cureable. Dropsey is associated with fluid in the abdomen, most of the time. Pristine water conditions are favorable when treating. Rose

Thanks for the replies. I'll just add that he has not got a swollen body/abdomen, and the small area of scales that have lifted really does look more like damage than anything else. I have been treating the tank with BSB as this is supposed to treat swollen eyes. Unfortunately I don't have anywhere else to put him :( I really do wish I could do something more :what: GM.

:( Keep your water quality as high as possible i.e. frequent changes and clean gravel etc. Over 95% of problems/diseases are caused by poor water!! ;)  Mac.
