My brackish tank has finished cycling and I'm beginning to stock it. My original intention was to get one male and one female knight goby with some puffers, but my lfs seems to only get females. I bought their last one tuesday and went back in today and they had 2 more females in. Should I go ahead and get another female or are they more likely to fight? I do really like how the males look, but the lfs doesn't have control over what sex they get and I don't want them to keep ordering fish in hopes of getting a boy since they are a small family-run business.

Also, I think my girl is doing really well in her new home :) She hides a lot, but at feeding time she goes nuts!

I have a pair I inherited from CFC and they're doing wonderfully, but spend most of their time in separate pipes and only really mix at night when the lights go down. :)

My LFS has a huge brackish display tank with Knight Gobies, but they're all female and there doesn't seem to be any problems there so I would think a female would be fine.

Oh, my male is a little larger, slimmer and has a longer dorsal fin than the female if that helps at all, but I don't think I could tell the difference with any other ones unless there was a male and female together - sorry! :D

Thanks for the reply :) I figured that since nobody replied for a while, it probably didn't matter a lot so I went ahead and got a second girl. There are two stores near me that sell the knights and all I've seen them have are girls!

As far as mine go, I've yet to see them fight, chase or nip. I don't really know what their aggressive/submissive behavior is, but when I first put the new one in, the older and larger one came up to her and rested her chin on the new one's back. They sat like that for at least 10 minutes not moving, and I've seen this behavior a few more times since then. They've set up their territories close to each other and swim together when they're prowling for food. Also, the new one is way less shy which caused the older one to become more bold so I get to see them a lot more!

They're so fun to watch now because they'll come up and sit on my rocks and watch my husband and I while we're sitting on the couch like we're there for their observation pleasure. I can just see them talking to each other about how it's so relaxing to watch us watch tv

I've got four in my brackish tank, along with a figure 8 puffer. I had three, two males and one female, without any problems. There are plenty of caves in my tank, so they get resting spots wherever they want, and sometimes I won't see them until feeding time. I've since added a fourth, mainly because it was about to be consumed by a 18" arowana at my LFS. He was a little skinny guy, but was so cute when I put him in. He immediately found one of the bigger males (female is the biggest, then the two males, the the little guy) and started following him around, doing what he did. It didn't take long for him to grow quite a bit, and is almost as big as the other males now. I've wondered if I would have problems with the males fighting, but they seem to stick to their hiding places (I know exactly where to look to find each one now) and don't bother each other until feeding time. Then it's kind of a mess, but no one gets hurt. I'm glad you're enjoying them... I love mine :)

I definitely love them and am probably going to get a couple more. I might hold out for boys. I haven't gotten my puffers yet because I'm trying to decide how many to get. I might only get 1 or maybe 2. The tank is 38 or 40g. Also, I have a tiny molly fry in a net that I'm afraid the puffers will bite through so I'm waiting until it gets big enough that filters aren't a threat so I can move it into another tank.
