Kissing Gouramis

i fell in love with one at my LPS, he kissed the glass by my finger and said, 'Take me home pwease miss big-person.' he's about two inches long and very social, he hangs 'round with the 3-Spot Gouramis and baby Angels, but avoids the Gold and Tiger Barbs at all costs. he's a sweet little devil, but i'm afraid he may harm my community.

6 Platties
6 Kuhlii Loaches
1 African Dwarf Frog

15 pounds of river rock gravel, a lot of Anubias and Vallisnera, two ceramic candleholder caves, power filter w/ carbon, heated to 79* and lighted by two 25w halogen bulbs (which will be replaced!) it's a 10g tank, and i don't want any of this 'He'll get too big!' stuff, i know by experience that the maximum fish size does not mean the every-fish size. plus, if he gets large, i have an aquabid seller on my hands.

i just want to know about him. will he uproot plants? hurt anyone? damage the filter intake?

I know you don't want to hear this, but he will do your community no good. They do get big and they "kiss" the other fish, which is an aggressive gesture. Here is a link about them:

Your tank is small and he will outgrow it or become stunted in it. In the process, he will, very possibly harm the smaller fish---the betta, platties, frog, and kuliis.

If it is at all possible, I suggest you move him to larger quarters with more suitable tankmates.

I agree with Inchworm wholeheartedly. By stating that you don't want to hear about size factors, you're asking everybody to overlook a problem that cannot be ignored. Kissing gouramis are large fish. They are fairly aggressive and very territorial. One kisser would want more territory than your whole tank can provide. Your betta, for one, would be toast.
