aw, i'm sorry about your mare. has he taken to the bottle yet? i never got the orphan i was taking care of to accept it. He had to learn to slurp his foal lac out of a feed bucket.
Thanks for all the lovely comments everyone. That's why I love this forum.
The foal has been taking the bottle, quite easily, and is moving on to being fed from a bucket. It's such a shame for him though. I've had babies dead on arrival, but never a baby with a dead mother. He's at someone else's house currently, because I just cannot provide the around-the-clock care he needs, so I'll give you all updates when I get them.
Thanks once again, I really appreciate the replies.
I'm really sorry to hear about Calli, however all the best for the foal, and just think, you will always have something to remember her by now you have her baby.
I am so sorry to hear about Calli .is there no mares near you that has lost a foal that may foster him?
I know someone who has done this and the mare took to the foal instantly
I was discussing with a work colleague the other day about the comparison to losing a pet and a family member and we both agreed that losing a pet can be just as stressful and tragic, espically if you get so close.
