Hi all. I like these little critters. I have done research on them. I have one question i never got an answer to. Can you put these little guys in a tank with gravel or does it have to be sand?

Either but if it is gravel make sure it is round and not sharp.

whats the best way to go about feeding these, i have three black ones in my community tank. ive been dropping in some freeze dried blood works for them, but im not sure if there getting them.

They will eat nearly everything -- if it gets to them.

Among other options, they will eat frozen bloodworms that can be delivered with a straw, catfish/algae wafers (Hikari Carnivore brand is particularly appreciated), or flakes (if you can sink a large flake to the ground, it is very interesting to see the kuhlis biting on it).

Black kuhlis would also eat watermelon (anchor a small piece at the ground and see), striped don't.

I have black kuhlies and they like flake the best. I mainly feed them Hikari sinking wafers, and they get whatever flake gets to the bottom. They eat bloodworm too. They don't touch cucumber. I've never tried watermelon.

thanks for the info on feeding them. i was so worried about them not eating, on aco#### that i have about 30 other hungry fish in there with them. im thinking about moving my three into a 10g sand tank. any good ideas for some tankmates? i thought maybe some sunset coral platies or guppies.

IMO, the best dither for any loaches is Asian Cyprinids. Best to choose from small Danios or Rasboras. White Clouds are also OK. Barbs are generally worse, but very small ones (e.g. Cherry) is OK. It is better to chose less active dither, it will stress kuhlis less.
My personal favorite for quiet dither is Blackline Rasbora (aka Redtail Rasbora, aka Brilliant Rasbora): these are reasonably attractive, quite and hardy 2" fishes.
Microrasboras should work nicely too.

And, of course, sand, some driftwood and plants, for best results.
