Khuli Loach

Hi,
I just bought a khuli loach and he is very small, he is hiding on top of the internal filter, he's been up there for about 3 hours now. Is he just being shy or will he always hide? I heard they're best in groups but they only had one in the shop and I haven't got enough room for another one.
Any ideas on how to make him come out?

I have three black kuhlis and in the first 3 weeks or so that I had them, they hid entirely. I have a cave in my tank and they rarely ever ventured out of it; then I found out they were moving about at night time when the tank light was out and not during the day. Yours might just need some time to come around. Mine sit on top of the heater and thermometer occasionally, both are submerged.

I also read at some point that they like being kept in groups of up to 6. Mine snuggle together when they are at rest.

Great fish, great personalities on them, I hope you enjoy yours =)

Yea they get on fine, thanks for the help guys. If i see more khuli loaches in my lfs i will buy them, I think he's buried himself because i have looked everywhere in the tank and can't see him. Also is it natural for them to swim at the top of the tank? He keeps swimming with his head out the water but now he's found the sand so i think he's alright.
He's got a great personality, he keeps swimming on top of the male bristlenose and then the bristlenose takes him down to the sand. Sort of like a taxi.

I had tweo khulis I moved from my sons tank to my big tank, we've had them years.

One was killed in the impeller of the internal JUWEL filter and I assumed the other had met the samne fate as I hadn'tseeen him for months but I moved a piece of bogwood the other day and he was sitting there all fat and fine.

I had tweo khulis I moved from my sons tank to my big tank, we've had them years.

One was killed in the impeller of the internal JUWEL filter and I assumed the other had met the samne fate as I hadn'tseeen him for months but I moved a piece of bogwood the other day and he was sitting there all fat and fine.

Kuhli's love to swim in to pipes etc. its common for them to swim against the current and nip inside a filter to meet a sad fate.

I have or had two khuli loaches in my tank, havent seen them in about a month. I spent one afternoon looking for the but could not find them. I hope they are ok.

i assume through the pipe, obnly noticed cos he stoppped the water flow from return pipe!!! wasn;t a pleaant site!!
