hey i just fed my fish some flakes, and while watching i saw my full grown khuli loach pop out of the hole in the filter (the part where the electric wire goes in) grab a flake then went back in! he later wriggled out and landed on the sand fit as a fiddle..

do they normally do this? or is my khuli dicing with death?

it is a fluval + filter...

ive heard alot about kuhlis doing this, and to prevent it ive heard that you can stick an old piece of a pair of tights or something over the intake :)

ahh so im not the only one with a thrillseeking loach XD
thanks for the tip!

Take extreme are and block the opening asap! I've lost two Kuhlis like that in a Fluval filter  it was not a pretty sight to say the very least. The were ripped and mangled to pieces

get an old piece of tights ( or pantyhose its called in the states ) & fix it over the outlet nozzle/pipe that lets the water out ( use an elastic band) it will keep your loaches out.
all loaches love dark little corners/holes & caves and will head for them. yoyos also love to seek out interesting dark pipes!!!!!! one of our yoyos we have now when he was teeny used to hide in the top of our internal fluval i didnt know until one day fiddling around turned the filter off then on again & saw a surprised looking yoyo being flushed out of the outlet nozzle at 50 miles an hour.it was quite funny at the time but we covered up the hole until he got too big to fit as we didnt want to risk it. ive got a pic of him sitting in it somewhere - i'll have a look.
we'd also just lost another yoyo who swam up our old external outlet pipe - we used to watch him swimming madly against the flow thinking he'll never do it until one day he obviously did when we were out & died :-( :-( we felt terrible! and learned our lesson.
even now the yoyo who used to call the fluval home still sometimes swims at the outlet pipe for a few mins & sticks his nose at it as if trying to get back in but hes far too big now to even get past his whiskers! :)
