Could anyone explain the easiest solution to my tapwater problems. For a number of years i've solely kept soft watersouth american cichlids, i would now like to venture into african and central american cichlids. The problem being is that my tapwater has a very low kH causing the pH to gradually to dip to a pH of 6.0. The following readings for my tapwater were taken this morning, could anyone suggest a method of stabilising my pH to approx 7.5 to 8.5 whilst also increasing the kH and gH to suit central and african cichlids. The main problem exists were i add bicarbonate soda to raise the kH but inorder to reach a reading of approx 5 to 6 my pH has risen above my requirements.

Tapware chemistry: pH - 6.75 ; kH - 1.5 ; gH - 5.

Suggestions would be gratefully welcome.

Brian.

Kent have a couple of products which would be helpful to you.

Check out these links - http://www.kentmarine.com/html/ror.html
http://www.kentmarine.com/html/phs.html

RO Right will raise GH and pH Stable will raise KH and pH.

Ensure you follow the directions carefully though, you only use small amounts.
One more thing, liquid test kits with these products will not be accurate. You will need an electronic TDS or conductivity meter. Liquid pH test will be ok though.

Hope this helps. :)
