Kh And Ph

I'm NOT a fan of dosing to correct Iodine/Iodide/Iodate (there are technically 3 forms) for a few reasons.

One, you have to test for all 3 which is a royal PITA
Two, Iodine derivatives are poisonous to invertebrates in too high a concentration which is easily reached via mistakes
Three, maintaining proper levels has never been shown to have benefits to livestock health over low levels
Last, waterchanges easily replace it without worrying about overdosing

Ok thanks Ski.
In your oppinion, what do you think the main stats to try and maintain in a mixed reef tank then?

Josh

In order:

Temperature
Salinity
Phosphate
Magnesium
Alkalinity
Calcium
Nitrate

Ok thanks ski

I always thought calcium would have been more important than magnesium.

There is a reason behind this. Mg is needed to keep KH steady. KH is needed to keep Ca steady. You cannot keep Ca levels up without keeping Mg and KH up also :good: KH and Mg will also get utilised in coral skelaton growth also

All the best
