Hi,

I am wondering whether Keyholes would be okay alongside 2 honey & 2 opaline gouramis in a 40G (uk) tank?

Cheers,
Paul

Yes, i would think so :good: however not too sure because i am new to it

I would suggest pearl gouramis over the trichogaster trichopterus (opalines). Pearls are more peaceful, it isn't easy to keep two trichos together without having them fight. I keep two in a 75g and they still quarrel, a smaller tank would only exacerbate this behavior. They may also pick on the honeys and keyholes, as they grow to roughly 5 or 6 inches :)

Thanks,

The opalines & honeys are already acquainted with the tank, I've had them for around a year. There is only one male trichos, the rest of the gouramis are female and there doesn't seem to be any hassle between them really. I may just be lucky and have a dosile couple of fish, but I have heard that keeping honeys with opalines calms them down a bit.

I have another tank which is 30g, with 2 large breeding angels, I figured Keyholes would not suit that tank!

There is plenty of hiding spaces, the tank consist of bogwood & anubias, and lots if it. Has anyone had any experience with Keyholes & gouramis as I am quite keen.

Cheers,
Paul

Yes, I had a couple of opaline gouramis with my keyholes and they got on absolutely fine - never bothered each other - ever! :good:

Thanks,

My local LFS has a beautiful batch of keyholes in at the moment.

Can anyone recommend a decent amount? I was thinking of just 2, or would 3 or 4 be more preferable?

Thanks,
Paul

Hi,

Thought I'd post some pics of them, using a camera phone so apologies for the blur.

I bought 4 in the end, beautiful fish - I absolutely adore them.

The Keyholes seem to really get along with the gouramis, there is no problem whatsoever.

Thanks very much for your help,
Paul

All I have to say is my 4" keyhole stressed my Blue Gourami so bad he would not leave it alone the poor Gourami dead. This might have been a freak thing because my Gourami was a big wimp. but IME cichlids don't mix well with Gouramis.

It all depends on the fish. Just watch for any bullying. They should be fine.

Your fish and tank set up look fantastic! :good:
