Keeping My Fish Alive!

cheers, the journy was a sucsess, i got a little bunch of kuhli loaches to wiggle around lol

I'm glad your journey was successful. I have traveled with bettas in planes without a problem. A small cooler has proven to be a valuable tool for long trips. Most fish are shipped via Express or Next day airmail, so if the proper safe guards are taken, most fish can survive a days shipping. Safe guards include, clean water to be housed in, fasting the day before, plenty of area for gas exchange, not over-crowding the bag, and a touch of either stress coat or a product like Amquel+ that converts Nitrogen compounds into a non-toxic form. At least this is what I do when I travel with fish. I have had my bettas in bags for nearly 24 hours at a time with no ill effects during trips. This is most likely how my bettas will make the two-day road trip journey when I move back to FL.

i suppose, i have never mail orderd fish. I mite have to soon though i really want a beta and no where around me sells them

I used to work in a fish shop as a teen (my dream job but it didnt pay too well ho hum), when the stockist recieves a delivery they usually come in bags in a large polystyrene box. We used to have lots of these kicking around backstore,Im sure if you asked nicely the shopkeeper would give you one of these, packing around the side of the bags with newspaper is also a good idea as it will not only help to maintain the temperature but will also stop the bag from moving around. Air in the bag shouldnt be too much of a problem if you only have a few fish per bag :) hope this helps
