I don't think it's a silly question.

I voted 'both'; my tanks of tetras and barbs are my hobby, my plecs (BNs, whiptails, clown, L052) and especially the cichlids (ram, oscar, angel) are definitely pets.

The oscar has trained my son to come when 'called'; he jumps up and bashes the condensation tray when he's hungry and my lad runs off and feeds him

Wow! I've never heard of a fish "calling" for a feed. :hyper:

They're both :D

I agree. For me I guess it is a hobby to maintain the tank/make it pretty/make sure the fish are happy and they are pets in the way they keep me company through the glass

Thats why fishkeeping is great right?

Fish keeping is most definitely an interest, as I research it in my spare time and watch programs. But I also go fishing often, as I like to see wild fish behaviour and compare it to that of my tanks. I'd never consider my fish as pets, unless I got an Oscar and had it for life

James.

I kinda figured fish keeping is more of a hobby/interest since they can't really interact with you and calling them pets are pretty strange... But my fish are starting to get to me hehe. I used to keep hamsters but they died of old age and due to my current condition I'm not allowed any furry pets  Got 5 family doggies though

When you have 12 year old corydoras and one of them dies and you bury it in the back yard under an apple tree, it is definitely a pet. That's just my opinion though...I was gutted when he died  In my opinion, a pet is something that you care about and take care of and depends on you for survival and that entertains you and lifts you up when you're down.

Nicely said :good: totally agre with you!

i have yet to bury one of my fish in the backyard.. but i do count them as pets, they recognize me when i come in the room and dance for me. i know that this is begging for food. but they don't do it when other people come in and they move to the back of the tank when my 26 year old son walks past them.

i figure if you name your fish they are pets.. and more than one of my fish have names, but not all.
