I was talking to a guy in the pet store the other day and he suggested that I put a male fancy guppy in my tank. He didn't work there and I think he was going completely off of how the fish looked but I thought I'd ask anyway. I couldn't find any information on guppies temperament or if it would be cruel to keep just one but it seems like there would be problems keeping a single male guppy. I relay have no idea because I've never owned on and I don't intend to at the moment; Just because a guppy is big enough to hurt some of the fish/invertebrates in my tank. (Started stoking the new tank BTW.) That and they breed like mad so I could only have one. So was this guy telling me to do something stupid or was it maybe something I should look into to liven up my tank.

I've kept one guppy all alone and he was fine. You'd be okay. :) Some people may say no, but I've had a tank of just one guppy, all alone, for over a year, and he's still fine and healthy.

Mine used to be with other fish, too. I promise you he will be fine. :)

Ok thank you. :good:

We were given a male guppy and put him in a tank with platys and a couple of bristol nose plecs and we ended up having to give him to our local fish store because he kept terroising our other fish with his wanting to mate :( He was chasing them around and nipping and thought every other girl fish was a female guppy ..

*shrugs*

I have a tank full of only male guppies and they chase each other around, sometimes in a line trying to mate. It's pretty funny to watch.
