Juwel Vision 180 High-lites

Hi All,

I've had a Vision 180 for nearly 2 years now and I still have 2 T8 lights in it 2 x 25W I think. At the weekend I noticed in the fish shop that they have now changed the lights to High-Lites which are 2 T5 lights, having looked at their web site and one of the online retailers they are eith 2x35W or 2x30. I realise I would get a better WPG if I increase the watts but I'm curious if it is worth me swapping to the T5, are there any other advantages I would get?

I don't think its worth the upgrade. Juwel light bars are pretty expensive. You might do better doing like I have with my Rio180. I bought a second light starter cheap (£5 on ebay) and a new tube. I also bought some metal juwel mounting clips. A few bolts/nuts later and I mounted the second tube via the clips to one of the existing tubes. I then had to modify one of my reflectors so they fitted better (but not necessary).

Whole lot probably cost me £20 and I now have 2x30w (juwel lightbar) and 1x25w tubes.

OK that'll probably save me some money then, I'll look to mount an extra tube, I tried this once before but wasn't too happy with it just resting in there, I'll probably look to fasten it to the flap or along the lines you've done. I just wasn't sure if the T5's would give me something extra.

You might get better colour definition, but to be honest, I don't know much about the difference between T5 and T8 (other than the size!) I just know that the way I've done it didn't cost me a whole lot

I noticed these today too... Sounds like it would give the RIO180 almost 2WPG rather than about 1.3. Not a huge improvement, but for me it might be worth considering as i quite like the "factory" style fitting with no mucking about. However it does sound like a better option if you were buying the tank new with them, and a little pricey for the improvement level.
