I am looking for a corner aquarium. I don't know whether to go for the JUWEL TRIGON 190 OR FLUVAL VENEZIA 190? Anybody got one of these? if so whats your opinion of them. thanks

I have the Trigon 190 and i like the tank, it's well built and the cabinet is of good standard, IMO a lot better than the Fluval range. The Trigon has the juwel filter in the back, which can be removed if needs be. The Fluval has that filter bit coming up through the bottom of the tank, which i don't think you can move.

The main problem with the corner tanks is the maintenance as they are so deep. I'm 6.2 and i have to stand on a chair for a proper water change.

Here's pics of mine.

Thanks for the reply, i know the water filters through the bottom of the tank in the fluval. I am just concerned this could leak water eventually. On the plus side i have read the filter in the fluval is better than the juwel.
Hopefully i will get more opinions.
Regards

the only problem with juwel is the lights ,i have both makes and the fluval has never let me down , the juwel on the other hand is always blowing either bulbs or power packs (not a nice job to rectify yourself)and too expensive to replace at 100 quid a throw.Just my opinion though lol. im sure others may disagree.

this is on Juwel tanks over 4 years old. The new tanks source the lights out in Germany now and they are sorted as before they were source in China and there was where the problem was.

As for the filter, i'm still using the internal and have found it to be fine. You will read that the filters are rubbish, but i have personally found that the filter is actually quite good. Like i say, i can be removed, and i don't think the Fluval one can?

I have just googled the Fluval Venezia 190 and comes with a fluval 205 external filter so i would say you could change if required.

sorry, when i say it can't be removed, i'm not sure the connections in the tanks can be removed.

Juwel are doing the 190 with free stands at the moment, I believe. I'll double check tomorrow for you that the 190 is included, but I'm sure it is.

I have the order forms which the rep dropped off the other day, so I'll double check when I am in and post the prices up etc.

As far as the Juwel vs Fluval goes.. I'd pick the Juwel. Better build quality over the Fluval in my opinion, although that isn't everything as you have seen from the responses here. My only gripe with the Juwel is the internal filter. Granted, you can remove it but with cleaning, I always used to get mess all over the tank. As far as it's capability went, it was fine.

I think your right, if its setup like my roma 240 the flow pipes are connected to the bottom of the tank. Saying that i think i've got some screw on cap ends somewhere which would give you the option to switch filter systems, would proberly involve getting rather wet.

The research i have done on the web seems to sway towards the juwel, the only gripe i have found is the internal filter.
I do like the idea of these as there seems to be less chance of a water leak than that with an external filter (experience talking!!!) thanks for all the responses please keep them coming.

great, thanks

Got a Trigon 190 and a 350 Love them they are fantastic tanks never had a fluval so cannot comment.

With my 190 I kept the internal filter and just used that for a while then added a fluval 405 later on to up the filtration in the tank with the 350 I took out the internal and had just the canister filter they worked great.

Personally I prefer the internal out as it gives you so much more room, I found myself staring at this big black box in my tank in the early days then finding myself hateing it and then for months hideing it with bog wood and plants before going throught the hastle of taking it out but that's just me some people like them but if you find yourself staring at the black box save yourself time and torture just get it out.

I would say the only challenge with them is maintenance as mentioned before.

Oh one recommendation with any Juwel's well the cabinets is that they come with very inadequate flimsy looking round plastic moulded feet, considering the weight these cabinets take do yourself a favour go to your local hardware store and by some solid wood ones and fit them instead as I had one break fortunately the wall propped everything up (load bearing) Pheeeew! but it scared the hell out of me when it broke! Oh it cost me about £10 to get some wood replacements.

Anyway's I hope this helps good luck with your purchase
