Juwel Rio 400

The lighting on the smaller ones is rubbish, like the Rekord 96 but Ive not needed to add an other bulbs to my rio 300, just rather put in different bulbs and I think they are fine.

The only person I think I can remember actually having a problem with tyheir Juwel tanks was CFC and so he is not their biggest fan but lots of people say the are rubbish without ever having had one. I have only heard of 3 peoples rio 300's support bar breaking, thats CFC and his pal and one other person on this forum but I cant remember who now but there are still plenty people who have Juwel tanks and are happy with them so you cant very well slag them off unless you have or have had one.

I've a juwel vision 260, which is great. The filter isn't as good as something like and eheim external would be, the lights are not as good as top-of-the-range whatevers, but you're really getting what you pay for.
It's not a top-of-the-range tank (well, mine isn't) but I find all the hardware is right for what I want it to do ( I don't want a densely-stocked tank, I want lower light levels for the tetra's, etc) and so there'd be no point in spending loads more on it - i wouldn't want or need the extra power.
You could easily replace/ add items if you needed to.

I don't have a Jewel tank, I have a bespoke cabinet & tank made by 'The Classic Cabinet Company' in Hull which I am very happy with. I run an external Ehiem 2128 filter with Arcadia I-Bar T5 lighting.

My cousin however has a Jewel 190 Trigon. Now these tanks look great in my opinion, lighting great, water allways clear. My only negative on a Jewel is the cabinet finish/apperance. Its not bad, but not great. Value for money definately.

Half wish I'd got a Jewel for 'The complete system' in one if you know what I mean.

Saying that Aqua One & Caymen have some tidy looking 'Complete' tanks out on the market.

I've had 3 juwel tanks now and i've never had a problem with any of them, i do however take out the internal filters and replace them with externals, they look and perform much better. I'd recommend a juwel to anyone!

The tank in my sons bedroom is a Juwel rekord 70 and I too have no cause to complain the filter works very well (although I agree that it takes up a lot of space) the only thing that really annoys me is the way the lid on the rekords sit...there are very often water lines down the front of the tank where condensation has collected inside and dribbled out, have tried differing water levels but it keeps happening
Apart from that I am really happy with it and yours would be a rio, which I do believe has a hinged lid anyway - so good luck and let us know how it goes

I've had 3 Juwel tanks, a Rekord 70l, a Rio 240l and a Rio 400l. The tanks themselves are well made and overall they are excellent value for money as an all in one option. The filters work amply for an understocked/well planted tank, or if you keep small and/or non-messy fish. However, if you stock your tanks heavily and have a high bio-load, or if you keep large fish, you will of course have to add an external. My 240l Juwel that I have running currently has a Fluval 304 in addition to the internal, and a TMC Vecton UV steriliser. I always prefer splitting filtration in case of problems.

The lighting is adequate for low light requiring plants and for unplanted aquaria. If you need more intense lighting you can purchase reflectors. I believe you can also buy lighting expansion packs to take the total up to 4 tubes.

All in all I would highly recommend Juwel tanks.
