Juwel Rio 125

George

I have just read all the weeks of blogs on this tank and noticed your comments on the narrow/needle leaf Ferns dying off.

The very same happened to mine from AM that in the first 4-6 weeks they went yellow, became very holed and then algae magnets. I was trimming off leaves non stop and for the second month there was virtually 1 leaf left on each rhizome.

3 months on and they are starting to really get going. I haven't had to trim a leaf for over a month and they are growing much faster than the tropica site says they should.

I never attached mine. I pushed their rhizomes into cracks and crevices in the wood. I personally think it xould be an 'acclimatising' effect occurring and until the roots start to 'stick' the plant suffers a little.

Maybe its the Lincolnshire water because I find this happens with all my Anubias and all my ferns that for the first month or so they die off until all that is left on them are leaves that have grown since I put them in the tank and from that point on (as long as CO2 and ferts are looked after) they start to thrive (maybe this is a coincidence with the roots attaching properly).

Either way once mine get large enough (and we know thats months away. lol) you can take some from me already acclimatised to Lincolnshire water if you'ld like.

As I said in previous posts good luck with this tank. IMO definately looks better since you removed the red 'wall' from the centre (although I do see a lot of things different from the experts judging by the comments I read on the AGA entries. lol)

Thanks again, everyone!

Do you have any tips on keeping little ones hands off pipes and hoses leading from the sides of the tank? I have mine coming in from the back at the mo to make sure they don't get touched at all (especially as the external heater dial is very attractive to 1 and 2 year olds)!!

My 2 year-old doesn't seem fussed by the hoses etc., thankfully. She does help with water changes, ferts and fish food though, which is cool.

I have taped the heater dial in position (26C).

It doesn't even look like a Juwel Rio anymore. Lovely scape. I've always been fond of glosso, and you do grow it very well. Good marks on fish choice too, not too overpowering. I like the tank a lot. :good:

New toys are always nice.

Thanks llj. Nice to hear from you. I hope you are well.

Very nice George, hope you have better luck with the glosso than our first outing lo
I'm in the process of redoing my 120l after a little 2yr old managed to turn up my co2 while I was away. 48hrs living in soda water didn't do my fish any good
Just a quick question for you - Is the JBL Proflora used under the silica sand or did you use the sand to bulk out the substrate ?

Keep up the good work m8

Thanks mate. Nice to see you on here again.

The JBL Proflora is mixed with the bottom 1/3 of the sand. JBL do pre-mixed stuff too.

That's very interesting, Andy. Thanks for the info and kind offer.

Hi George,

Very nice, it will grow in a very attracting aquascape. Interesting blog to. The tank look much better with out the hood.
Do you know the concentration of N/P in TPN+? I use it in a 12L with EasyCarbo (no CO2) and it's going pretty good so far, great product.

Looking good George!

Are you not scared about removing the brace lol

Keep up the good work
