I’ve been covering this aquascape’s progress from scratch, week-by-week, on the PFK blogs.

Tank – Juwel Rio 125 with hood and brace removed (80 x 35 x 45cm)
Filter – TetraTec EX 1200, ADA Clear Hose, Aquatic Magic lily pipes, Hydor inline heater
Light – Arcadia overtank luminaire (4 x 24w T5), 2 x Arcadia Plant Pro, 2 x JBL 9000K, 9 hours
CO2 – JBL pressurized system, 1BPS through Rhinox 2000, 4dKH drop checker
Substrate – JBL Proflora 200 and silica sand
Ferts – Tropica AquaCare Plant Nutrition+ 5ml per day

Stems still have some way to go. There’s some Ludwigia arcuata lurking in there ready…

I’m enjoying watching this develop through my new toy, a Canon EOS 10D.

Happy Christmas and New Year!

Impressive George! I like it very much and have been watching the blogs.
Not really a Juwel anymore is it

nice, im going to be creating a juwel rio 125 planted. May have to get a few tips :p
Whats your current stocking?
Do you think having the standard t5 juel lights and a rekord 60 15 watt t8 would get good results?

Hi george that is one truly stunning tank.. What is the short plant right at the front covering the bottom.Thanks.

Its excellent and the photos are top quality, very very impressive.

George

I notice that contrary to most people you position your diffusor in both this tank and in the low light one at the opposite end of the tank to the filter inlet/outlet and also half way up the tank.

Is your opinion that this works better?

Also I see in both you have reverted to using just TPN+ rather than dry powders. Guessing from the results you are getting TPN+ is doing the job on its own and is a very good option rather than dry powders + TPN.

Very Interested in your opinion.

p.s. love the scape. very clear and IMO the wood is positioned perfectly. I love the way you make green look the best colour and you hardly ever seem to go for other colours which I think is why your scapes look so good.

As green is the only colour there it makes you want to look around the whole tank rather than your eyes being drawn towards a different coloured plant distracting you from the whole picture.

pps - Do you have any tips on keeping little ones hands off pipes and hoses leading from the sides of the tank? I have mine coming in from the back at the mo to make sure they don't get touched at all (especially as the external heater dial is very attractive to 1 and 2 year olds)!!

Thanks, everyone!

Ha ha. Yes, the only Juwel bits left are the glass and cabinet.

You can see stocking in this blog - http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/pfk/....php?blogid=141

Your proposed lighting sounds fine for most plants. CO2 will improve things.

Thanks. The foreground cover is Glossostigma elatinoides (glosso) with some Eleocharis acicularis (hairgrass) accents.

Looks fantastic.
Thanks.

Thanks, Liam.

Hi Andy

For me, the CO2 microbubbles get distributed most effectively in that position. I experiment until I see what works best. The characteristics of the water flow around the tank pick up the microbubbles best there and move them around nicely. Very few CO2 microbubbles hit the surface.

TPN+ is great. I think I get away with lower macros because I have hard tap water high in NO3 and PO4. It's all I use for dosing these days, any tank. The 120cm sees 10ml per day. I get in 5 litres at a time.

Cheers.

With me having the same size tank, same pipes but with EX700, same diffusor and virtually same light level plants I think I may well copy you here and see what results I can gain. Being in roughly the same area I guess my tap water is as 'loaded' as yours, so coupled with my high stocking I should be OK.

I' think having the one tank I'll be buying a 500ml though and this will be after I've given JameC's PMDD+PO4 a darned good trial (no point throwing away good powders. lol)

Keep the scapes coming. Loving to see decent scapes that aren't over-elaborated.

Andy

Love it, I should really invest in some more discrete hardware.

Stunning tank :hyper: .

The pics are great, evidently you like your new camera.

I prefer it now you have a more open space in the middle, it looked a little crowded the first aquascape you did but still good!

It doesn't even look like a Juwel Rio anymore. Lovely scape. I've always been fond of glosso, and you do grow it very well. Good marks on fish choice too, not too overpowering. I like the tank a lot. :good:

New toys are always nice.

Very nice George, hope you have better luck with the glosso than our first outing lo
I'm in the process of redoing my 120l after a little 2yr old managed to turn up my co2 while I was away. 48hrs living in soda water didn't do my fish any good
Just a quick question for you - Is the JBL Proflora used under the silica sand or did you use the sand to bulk out the substrate ?

Keep up the good work m8
