Hello everyone, I have a Juwel Rekord 60 filter system compact super. It has 4 sponges. the blue filter sponge, then the green nitrate removal sponge, then the black carbon sponge, on top is a white pre filter white pad,for removing large particles.According to the manufacturers instructions, I should replace the white pad weekly and the carbon sponge 4 weekly.
My tank is about 2 weeks old and all seems well, ammonia and nitrite levels are zero.I rinsed the white pad out in some tank water, should I put it back or replace it.Thanks for your opinions.I got the feeling, its not necessary, they just want you to buy more sponges.Cheers

Hi mikky
best thing with the polyester pad is to play it by eye, if your tanks understocked and the pad isn't falling apart when you clean it then i would re-use it :good:
As for the carbon pads they are pretty much pointless unless you have just treated your tank and want to remove excess chemicals, I would probably eventually replace this with another fine blue pad which would last longer,

Thanks very much Davo86, that sounds like good advice, will do. Cheers

Just out of interest, are the Juwel filters easy to maintain? How easy are they to take apart and clean/change pads?

fairly easy i have one but i do have trouble getting the fan of the filter back on!

I'll second Davo's recomendation, and also add that the Nitrate removal sponge can also be replaced in the same fassion, for the same reason :good:

These systems are easy IMO, and I ran the Record 96 for about 5-7years before moving it on for my 335l upgrade :shifty: The pump is sometimes stuborn to dismantle for cleaning, and I used door keys to encurage it open  It all slotted back together with ease
