Depends on what plants you have and how they are growing at the moment. Its all about getting the balance right, so you could still have decent growth with original Juwel lights!!!

Never let it be said that I don't act on information!!!!

After reading this post, I decided to go and buy the Arcadia lamps. I had noticed that the water in our Juwel tank was never as clear as the water in my son's (non-Juwel) tank. I couldn't understand it until daylight dawned.

What a difference the new lamps have made! The water looks clearer - the fish look prettier and it definitely has improved it all round - so thanks and thanks again!

On another note - do shop around I found prices ranging from £16 down to £12 for the same lamps!!!

Love this site!!!!

Hi

I have a RIO 400 tank, and I find you can't see the fish if they are at the back.

I am gonna change my tubes tonight

James

my god im so confused.........and yes i am blonde! i have a juwel rekord 96 can i just change the lighting tube? if so what one do i need?

in the 2 tube juwel tanks can you turn one on and one of or is it both, also is there any markings on the bulbs that say whether they are juwell ones or replaced ones

yes all you need to do is unscrew the white end caps, gently pull out the yube and go to a lfs and get the same length tube.
reverse the procedure to install the tube.

for a planted tank, best ask in that forum, for general use then
I'd go with a triton or aqua-glo

I replaced the tubes in my Rio's 180 & 240 & 400 with Phillips Focal tubes (£80 pair, available from specialist lighting retailers) after the standard Jewel tubes made the tanks appear yellow (not aged water syndrome)
A good mix for twin tube tanks is a power glo at the rear with an aqua glo at the front.

hmm, i changed my juwel light to an aqua-glo some time ago and the only difference it has made is that the tank and its inhabitants look really pink. is this normal with aqua glo?

Aqua Glo is a bulb for planted tanks and helps plants grow. Most plant bulbs give off a pinkish tinge. Sun Glo should give you a more natural light. If you have a planted tank and the luxury of two bulbs then I would recommend using one plant bulb and one Natural daylight bulb. This will give you the best of both worlds at the lowest cost.

Juwel normally supplies them with ordinary Daylight bulbs from a household name like Sylvania. It ofcourse also depends on the LFS where you buy it from.
