just a quick pic of my new tank after about a week of slowly setting it up, sinking the wood and leaves, and going through a mini cycle!

not too sure about it at the minute, sorry about the camera quality too its not that great!

its made up of a large piece and 3 smaller pieces of manzanita wood, couple of rocks in there and a load of catappa leaves which have turned the water a yellowy amber colour...

i've got some plants on the way too!

any suggestions on what you would do with the tank would be great :)

wow this looks good, well done =] maybe make it a biotope tank? what plants you got on order?

do you think so :) ? i was starting to have 2nd thoughts about it but thanks :D i hate looking at the picture because it looks better in person than seeing a not so good quality pic lol, and i have ordered nymphaea zenkeri- tiger lotus because i thought this lily plant would look great if i could get some of the leaves to grow under water in amongst the tangled wood, and it'd create a bit of shade too and also aponogeton boivinianus i only got one of these but now im thinking i should have got more and put a few across the very back of the tank... and yes im kind of trying to create a biotope set up :)

your going for asian bio?, that idea sounds great, maybe afew stems of blyxa japonica as well might look good tucked away in small random places, and maybe a tiny version of java fern, or moss, i think a little moss on that wood would look good (try saying that fast)

ah now that my friend, is a great idea, i was stuck on what plants to use other than those i've named but you have given me a good idea

yes i was thinking of moss for the wood, java moss ? although it would be a pain to take those pieces of wood out and tie the moss on cus i know when i put them back in i wouldnt get them in the exact place they are now and then that would bug me!

im definately gonna get some blyxa now you've mentioned it! never tried it before but it looks nice. and i am now sat here repeating that to myself, oh dear haha

i couldnt help but think my tank looked a little bare, now i realise it does need plants, i didnt want to use many if i could help it cus i hadnt been having much look with them lately, but now im feeling optimistic :) im gonna order some blyxa japonica now :) maybe see if i can find some small version of a java fern too, never really had that much luck with java fern though even though its like the easiest thing to grow, mine always seemed to just slowly die off :/

ohh ouch iv had the same problem with java fern, it just struggles along for me, java moss would work, a little bit of a pain and not very pretty, there so many more nice mosses out there as well, id avoid java if i were you, i think weeping moss and xmas moss are asian, you'd have to check though

ohh thought i was the only one, thought i was just stupid or doing something wrong with it :') ahh i dont know a lot about mosses see i knew java moss was easy to keep and it was asian but i will check out the others that you named, thanks :)

theres loads of mosses out there, most i think are asian as well

this tank looks sweet perfect for some dwarf cichlids! what leaves are they?

thanks man :) id love some dwarf cichlids some day, maybe when i got a bit more experience ;) for now its going to be asian themed :) and they are indian almond leaves, found them on ebay!

update with some pics!

today i got my 2 new T5's one for plant growth, and the other for colour enhancing, i was surprised actually at what a difference it made
planted my tiger lotus lily and aponogeton boivinianus
have ordered some weeping moss, crypt pondederifolia and cilliata, hygrophilia difformis and some blyxa japonica
i was doing a water change yesterday and took the oppurtunity to get my scape in order, so thats done my main feature plants are in, ive started dosing liquid carbon again that and the aquatic soil substrate and my new lighting should hopefully give me some good good growth

ive been meaning to get a black back ground on the tank too, should have thought of that before i put it in place and filled it! now its gonna be awkward to do, thinking of going with an external filter too in the future some time, then i can take out the huge juwel internal system and i will have a bit more free space to work with

Was gonna say a black background. I also like the leaves in there, though smaller ones i think would look better. Cheers

yeah i agree, i liked the leaves but i think i need some smaller ones, and i will have to get a black background on there some how :)
