Juwel Internal Filter

Right, I know this may be a stupid question but here goes, my powerhead has just gone tits up and I've a spare internal filter in my cupboard, thing is, would it be possible to rip out the (useless in my opinion) juwel filter as it seems to be siliconed in fairly tight. Would i need to strip the tank down completely. i.e remove plants, gravel etc? How well attached is the filter casing? I've got another tank that the fish can stay in along with all the drained water so they'd be fine. Cheers in advance! :good:

Loads of people have removed the standard juwel internal filters by either pulling it off when the tank is empty or getiing a sharp knife down the back and cutting the silicon

however most replace them with externals and they look nicer :D

Yeah I know, an external would be the ideal solution but I'm too skint to go and splash out on one as I've just forked out far more than I ever planned to on a second tank for my bedroom (goddam lack of self control  ). I take it the silicone poses no threat to the fish as it's completely cured? In fact, is it safe to just cut it while all the water and fish are still in there, every time I walk past it I'm having to resist just ripping the damn thing out lol

Juwel Filters are usually just siliconed on with 4 blobs of silicon, try using a long thin knife to push down behind the filter to cut through the first two blobs of silicon. If you have a thick glass tank thats 10mil or more. It should be quite easy to remove it without any need to strip your tank down. Just take your time doing it though.

Just removed it and it came out a treat :good: . Can't believe how much space it was taking up! Oh well good riddance, now to start saving for an external...

What have you done with it? I'll happily take it off your hands if you've not binned it.
