just got in from school and all my cories are very lethargic and one is dead. 6 neons are dead so i looked at the temperature and its at 34oC with a calibrated digital thermometer!!!

this is the second heater from juwel i have had fail the first last month a 100 watt juwel heater and today a 200 watt juwel gone along with 7 fish

i say avoid juwel, both were from different batches

Yep noticed today that the juwel heater in my rio 180 which is currently cycling has died, water temp was down to 18c, which will be fine after the cycle as its for the ornates, but not helpful to my bacteria which is trying to grow.

Heater is only 4 months old.

ive emailed them and they offered a replacement but ive asked them not to.

im going with a new fluval with a digital screen and im going with a temperature sensor, the first heater was 5 weeks old and this one 4 weeks  really not good is it?

can any body recommend a reliable brand of heater? ive thought of either a visitherm, fluval E series or an eheim jaguar

Jager mate all the way. The more efficient also less wattage needed

Truck, do me a favour, send me the email addy so I can email them and hopefully get a replacement, thanks. :)

theyve sent me another saying because its still in guarantee you will need to take it to where you bought it from with receipt
i thought they would just send one by the sounds but upon further info they wont you need to take it from where you got it

im probably going for a fluval E series

I'm using Eheim Jagers at the moment, seem great, more robust than glass heaters. I bought them going off the reputation of the older Ebo Jager heaters, and I wanted something more robust than normal glass.

I've had an old Rena fail on me (but it was quite a few years old) and a less than a year old Aqua-One stainless steel heater (but as a replacement they sent me a bigger glass one after I asked, so I'm happy).

Visi-therms tend to last for ages...but become very inaccurate after a while and seem prone to getting condensation inside them.

Weird thing is, my most reliable and most accurate heater has been a second hand Aqua Vital heater I got for free from a member on here (KimA) nearly three years ago. Aqua Vital don't seem to have either a good or bad reputation for aquarium equipment as I've not seen mny people use thier equipment, so I'm tempted to go for another Aqua Vital on my bigger tank.

Fluval E series are very new, so I personally wouldn't get one till they have been out at least a year just in case there's some reliability issue that hasn't showed up yet.

Has anyone had a good Juwel heater  I have a second hand one which has been working for a week and I am amazed how accurate it is at keeping the temperature stable to within about 0.3 degree C but I am little worried now....

I found a real nice looking heater with digital control and a second overheat stat built in recently (no more boiling) but can't remember where it was or what it was called...

Anyway maybe I should dump the Juwel

My juwel heater has been running 5 years with no problems :good:

I have a Juwel Rekord 70 and and Juwel Rio 125, no problems at all. Rekord 70 I've had for 6 years. Rio 125 maybe 4 years.
