Juwel Filter

Hi sorry if this is in the wrong place but I seem to get quicker answers here. I've just seen my amano shrimp trying his best to get into my juwel rio built in filter!! Luckily he was too big, but I have got other shrimps smaller and an worried that they may try the same thing. Anyway I read on another thread that someone (I think it may have been Wilder) had taken his juwel filter out and wondered how this is done as it seems to be attached to the glass. Any ideas anyone??

Razor blade or stanley knife to cut the silcone, be careful not to scratch the glass, though you will have to totally strip the tank down.
Or fill the hole in the top if you have one with filter floss.

Thanks Wilder. He's just been trying again and have now put some filter wool over the hole on the inside, excellent idea! I'm very tempted to get this filter out and use my other one. Seem to me ever time I look at my tank all I can see is this great big black thing.

I have removed my Juwel filter without any problem whatsoever - it took less than 5 minutes and I did not have to strip or empty the tank

Just remove approx 50% of the water.
Remove all inner filter sponges & heater (and keep in the 50% water that's been siphoned off; while you remove filter).
Make sure all electricity to your tank is off.
Get yourself a "snap-off-blade" Stanley knife.
The Juwel Filters have 4 blobs of 1" silicone on each side attached to the tank (back & left).
Start with the top front blobs and use the knife in a "sawing" motion to slice through the silicone. Then do the back top blobs.
Then the bottom front.
By this time you can almost just gently pull the filter forward, enough to reach the back 2 blobs (side and left).
Once filter is removed, you can use a (unused or fish dedicated) pot scouring pad to remove any remaining silicone.

Note: Take great care not to let the blade slice into the actual tank seal silicone !

Place all Juwel sponges in new external filter, plug and ply and bob's your uncle

Ps: you can still use your internal Juwel heater - just buy a Heater Guard.

Thanks guys, think I'll definately get it out, have tried covering it with plants but the current moves the plants and from the side its quite visable. Just have to convince hubby that I'm doing the right thing. it seems like everytime he sees me I've got my mits in my tank arranging and moving things.

sounds stupid, but has anyone tried growing java moss on it to hide it?
Somone has made a java moss wall.

Hi all, I brought a Juwel air diffuser attachment it narrows the whole to half plus oxygenates the water.
It's stop my Danios trying to get in.

Hi Demonmaqus, I've just got silk plants in my tank but its a good thought to try java moss, I'll have a look round the different threads and read up about it, still seriously thinking of taking it out but will check up on the java moss first. thanks
