I have been reliably informed that i will be able to remove my Juwel internal filter and temporarily put the sponges in the new eheim whilst the bacteria colonises in the new filter.

I havent got the new filter yet (arrives monday), and i will be keen to get it set up ASAP. Ive been looking at some pictures on the web, and it seems to have plenty of sections. can anyone with one of these filters or one like it advice me on which of the sections of the filter i should put the old sponges..

Also, do i cut them up into bits or just cut them to fit..

Then i guess i just start replacing the old juwel sponges with more eheim media over time...

Cheers

Any reason why you don't want to run them together?

You could always run them together until the Eheim is stocked with bacteria, then remove the internal if you really want to.

i`m with padfoot, run them both together as double filtration is always good...

If not run the external for a month or two to allow the colony to build up inside of it then remove the internal

As you know, I ran mine together for two weeks and then removed the Juwel Internal and all was fine. Though as your tank is quite new still I'd advise you to do it for a mininum of a month. However you could quite happily add your Juwel sponges to any part of your new external - surrounded by new Eheim media. Though I think the first option might be the better one if you can stand your Juwel internal for 1 more month.

Thanks guys..!

thats just what i was looking for.. so i can put it anywhere ! ;)

Ian.. padfoot..

I appreciate that having the two filters forever would provide addtional filtration, but the Juwel internal filter is a pain in the butt, and i hate having to deal with it.. That is part of the reason for getting this filter. The Juwel filter can also cause me more problems. I prefer the easier maintenance that the eheim causes, where the Juwel one needs constant attention, and gunk gets caught around the internal filter houseing. I also have some plants that would prefer not to have two filter outputs, where the eheim one can have a spray bar attached to reduce the impact.

Basically, i'm after the easiest but most effective maintenace. I want to be lazy, without affecting my fish.. the eheim is the way forward ;)
