Hi I have a rekord 70 which has been at my parents house until two weeks ago when I felt brave enough to move our fish to our new house! The move went well and the environment is seemingly stable. However I have noticed my thermometer that is stuck on the side is reading 79-81 f most of the time. The tank is positioned in a dark spot and not near a radiator. So I wondered if this is too hot for the fish, how do I alter that?
The fish are not showing any signs of distress, they are not over or under active and they are not hanging about near the top.
Any suggestions would me much appreciated! Thanks

Is it a glass thermometer or one of the stick on plastic ones.

Glass are more accurate than the stick on ones, invest in a glass one that sits inside the tank, if it is a glass one then try using another thermometer in case it is damaged in anyway and isn't working properly.

If you want to turn down the heat (if the thermometer reading is right), then turn the heater down a fraction at a time over the next few hours so that the fish aren't shocked from one temp to another.

If you are not in the uk and the ambient temp in the room is causing the heat in the tank to rise put a fan in front of the tank to help cool things down, you could even try the odd (and I mean odd) icecube in the tank to gradually drop the temp.

But first try using a diff. thermometer just in case yours is stuck in place.
