Hi

Please bear with me and read this through, I've tried to make it short....

Was wondering if anyone has had the same problem as we are currently experiencing with a Rio 400. it is 16 months old.
Last night we heard a strangely muffled crashing sound as we were heading off to bed. Didn't know what it was and so just went off to bed anyway. This lunchtime I noticed that the two plastic struts that span the top of the tank from front to back had both come away from the frame that runs around the top of the tank - one was away at the back, one at the front. The glass was bowed out at the front by 12mm. Being Easter Sunday afternoon we had no-one available to get advice from so we dropped the water level in the tank as much as we could which is to the top of the water outlet so as the pump would still work. This reduced the bow to 5mm.
The plastic pieces are, on examination, broken and are cracked across with what looks like stress fractures. the crash we heard was obviously the straps breaking free.

Is there any one-out out there who has had the same or similar experience or who knows of any other remedial action we can take?? Any ideas why this might have happened in the first place apart from poor quality/workmanship?

We are going to phone the retailer in the morning and see what they say about a repair/replacement as the tank is so young.

Many thanks

hi cavafish

i had the same problem in 2 seperat tanks, both juwel rio 300ltr.

the 1st one went with a bang, didnt realise what it was, i only noticed it a few days later when i did a water change.

told the shop they thought it strange at 1st, they rang juwel, they said replase it.

the second one went about 2 mounths later, when back to the shop, they thought i was taking the mic, they rang juwel again, no problens replace it.

they sent me a replecement bar and some glue and instructions.

it must of happend quite a lot becarse the new bar has been strenthend where it hooks onto the tank

they should send u a new improved bar if u ring them

Thanks Simon. ;)

I phoned them this morning and they are sending some new bars and glue out to me. They said that they would be the same as the original ones though -_-

Was very reassured that the woman I spoke to said that the strength of the tank had not been compromised and that it wouldn't give way while I wait for the spares and do the work.

It is wierd looking at the tank with the water line s low though....... :alien:

Thanks again

Its a common problem aparently

I've read loads of posts on forums about it
(and the fact that they have spares ready to ship is a pointer too)
