Hi folks

After a wee bit of help.

Got myself a Juwel 240 from a friend about a year ago, unfortunately in the last couple of weeks the lghts went.

After a bit of research it appears that Juwel lights are pretty rubbish. Tried getting a new Ballast for it but it is different from the original (Couldnt find a replacement Ballast anywhere) so cant get it to work.

Looked at a new one which is £80 but worried I buy it and it only last another year.

Anyone have any ideas, can I build a new one cheaper, with better kit?
Is there a direct replacement?
Should I just get the juwel one?

If anyone has any ideas please try and dumb it down for me so I can understand

Cheers

James

Well I'm not sure about building one for cheaper. If you buy a Juwel one now, you could get the T5 HiLite version (which i presume you don't have) which has a greater output and so is better for plants. Alternatively you could look at the Arcadia I-Bar which is basically like te Juwel unit but by Arcadia. You could also look at overtank lights. Arcadia Luminaires and EQJ-Trading (ebay) ones are quite popular. I'm in a similar position needing to replace the lights and think I'm going to go for an ebay 3x54w unit as it is the best bang-for-buck as it were.
If you get a new Juwel, it should atleast be guaranteed for a year, if not 2. My current one has been going for about 4 years so I think you have been unlucky. You could always try a local electrical shop and see if they will repair it.

All the best,
Phil

My Rio 180 has gone as well, tested tubes and both work fine, tested fuse and thats ok.They are all sealed up and nothing else can be done without voiding the warranty.
I'm pretty sure mines still under warranty so hopefully it'll get replaced.Be damn annoyed if i have to fork out for one considering i have old arcadia lighting units that still work from 25 years ago and they are lighting the aquariam now.

Now if only i could find that receipt...
