Hello

In only a month the standard 18w lights on my tank have failed. Is this abnormal or some sort of problem with all juwel tanks?

I do have a planted tank but i have added 2 18w c3 lights to raise the Watts per gallon so i do have something to keep the things going.

Now my question is is it worth all the hastle of getting my LFS were i got the tank (pets@home) to replace the thing or should i just add some more c3 untils that are of a much higher quality.

Or is it possiable for me to some how get into the hood to check things over my self? the lights that i have connected to my c3's are the same fitting so i swaped the tubes over to make sure they had not blown out and they work fine in the other connectors. So this suggests the starter or transforer is not working.

Your opinisons are very welcome :good:

It is a common problem and one that juwel have known about for several years at least.

They are sealed units so you cannot fix them yourself, if you want them replaced you will have to take the whole unit back to the shop and wait a few weeks for a replacement.

Thanks for the information :thanks:

Ill be taking it back to the store tomorrow then for a replacement then.

Rant on

If its a common fault I cant believe they haven’t resolved it yet. I mean how can you make a step down transformer and a starter coil wrong!?

I first had this problem with juwel lighting 5 years ago and the lfs i bought the tank from told me that they and juwel had been aware of the problem for a few years already then, they simply dont seem bothered by the design fault and as long as people keep buying the tanks they will keep churning out the crap and replacing the units as they fail, until youre guarentee runs out out and then they hit you with a £70 charge for the replacement.

juwel tanks sure look nice but the equipment that comes with them is cheap rubbish.

I took this back to my LFS today and the manager asked if I was using a timer on it.

I said yes as I have my CO2 solenoids and other lights running of timers to get dawn dusk effects etc.

He told me that timers can cause premature failure on lighting units (surges as he put it) and said he would replace it this time but would not replace any more? Is this utter BS?

Not sure, but my juwel lights have been on timer for over a year. There's premature and there's premature... 1 month sounds daft

I have just bought over £40 worth of plants for a Juwel 125 aquarium system which I received for Christmas. After having the lights running for the weekend they failed. I contacted Juwel UK regarding this and I was informed that I could either take it back to where I bought it from (which I said is not easy as this is several hundred miles away!), or I could post it to Juwel in Norfolk at my own cost!!! The REALLY USEFUL response from the Juwel representative in Norflok was "Are your plants dead yet?" After enquiring whether the cost of my know light-starved and dying plants would be refunded, I was informed that this was not covered under the warranty. This is VERY VERY VERY bad service and if this is a known fault with this product that is on sale in this country, trading standards should be informed and these products should be banned for sale in this country until the faulty equipment is rectified. Furthermore I have received absolutely NO response to my query regarding this problem which was submitted to the Juwel website.

Very poor show Juwel - this is not good business!

As I have stated in a previous topic, a local fish shop in my area has said that the only reason they supply Juwel equipment was to hand them out as spares. They said that they rarely sell Juwel equipment and try to steer their customers away from them. The tanks are very well made and so are the cabinets but the filter/heater/lights are utter rubbish. The heater I have is set at 30 just so it can heat the tank to 26. Needless to say I have since bought another heater. The filter, after being turned off for some quick maintainance started spurting out dirt when turned on again, I have since bought an external filter...

If you can help it..dont buy Juwel accessories, just their tanks!!

I've got a 1980's (looks really old) juwel tank right here, you're right, the tanks look good but the rest is crap, my friend has a new juwel rekord or something and the lights failed e.t.c.

as a jewel tank owner with a failed light system (waiting over a week for replacement under warranty) and an electrician i find the comment about timers utter BS? if that were the case I could make a fortune from the local high street shops whose lights are on all night then go off in the morning demand a replacement one month is a joke
