Now I have an extremely large number of snails roaming around my 15g tank. How much damage to snails do? My plants are all intact but do they create a lot more waste? Am I going to be overrun soon? Do they upset the balance, or can I just leave them be?

Here is another thread about snails. It mentions that snails are a good indicator of whether you are over feeding or not. I had not really thought about that but it would appear to make sense as I have been feeding heavily for about 3 weeks (since I got my new corys and woanted to make sure enough was getting to the bottom for them). In that time, my snail population has exploded. Water has also become a problem to keep clean, probably also an indicator that I'm overfeeding that tank.

So I'd say that normally, snails aren't a bad thing but can be under the right circumstances.
