Hello all,

well umm I started cycling my tank with fish in it about 10 days ago.right now I have 4 zebra danios and 1 dwarf gouami he seems kinda lonely and doesnt come out of hiding much only to eat actually :D . And I was thinking of getting one more gourami this weekend to hopefully cheer him up! Will this be ok or will he get "new tank syndrome" or something else? thanks :D  :)

If I were you I wouldn't want to put another fish through the cycle. Maybe just take the gourmi back and have your lfs hold it for you, it's probably just sick from teh ammonia spike thats going on in your tank right now. Since your cycle won't be completed for a while he proably won't make it through teh cycle if hes sick already. Then when your tanks done, you can get him back, plus another one. Good Luck,
Ron

What the symptoms of your gourmi, you say he only comes out to eat and seems loney, and that he is in hiding most of the day. What else does he do more specifically, anything out of teh odinary? Whats your parameters as of now? Maybe with thsi info we'll be able to tell why exactly he doesn't come out much. I don't think he's lonely, I've had gourmis as a kid and there were some tanks that had only 1 gourmi in it. I'm sure he gets comany from the danios. ;)

Well he just sorta hangs out under some plant or cave thing. He will come out more often every day and he sometimes has a friendly (I hope) chase with the danios :D .and then he goes and hides then he eats. I got my water tested and 0 nitrite and a very little bit of ammonia. The lfs worker said not to worry about it he said it is from just cycling and it is completley normal. I dont think hes sick maybe he just likes hiding. My danios are out and zipping around all day and all night though .

Yea, hyper danios, figures!! :p
Okay, just keep an eye on your gourami and make sure he stays healthy. I still wouldn't bring in another fish, just stress on the fish that isn't needed. Good luck!

alright thanks but how long should I wait until I can get more fishies??!!??

til the tank is cycled. fishless cycle can take up to 6 weeks to fully cycle. after cycling, you will want to add fish slowly. this allows the bacteria to reproduce to handle the increased bioload of the tank.
