I have two Panda cory in my corydora tank, they were the only two left when I brought them a few months back & I didnt think I would be lucky enough to have a male & female, but I've just caught my beautiful girl flick an egg onto one of the plants, just the one for now, but its brilliant news as it means I have a breeding pair :good:

Its been a busy few days in the tank, the peppered have been spawning like crazy, about 60 eggs over 48hrs, I think the lower temps at night might be helping?

So exciting. Mine spawned once too a few days ago I'm going to try and get them in the mood with a cool wc. Good luck with them.

What tempertaure were yours and what temp do they usually need to breed?
I bought 2 bronze cory's
...but before that i bought 2 other cory's don'tknow the name but will get pics on soon. They look seathrough where i can see inside them and they have a black spots i think near they face and a bit of black on their top fin, also a black zigzag line going across their body, one is stronger colour (black lines) than the other.
They are swimming around with each other a lot and pair up a lot, sometimes do hang around with other 2 bronze cory's.
They are around 2cm in size, are they mature to breed?
I don't know how to tell from males and females if it is possible, I have kept cory's before and i heard that it is something to do with their top fin being either rounded or pointy?

thanks

I keep my Cory tank at 72 F . But it's a good idea to bring the temp up to 75f then do w a wc and fill with cooler water like it woul be when it rains. That's what got my fish in the mood. Also really clean water and good food. My bronze that spawned are about full grown 2". My pandas are 1.5".

But I'm new to corys. I'm sure some one could give you better info.

Sexing is very hard. Males are long females a bit more round. Males also will be the one doing most of the chasing and rubbing.

How are they all doing karigupi? And can I ask what your avatar pic is off as it is incredibly cute and a really good pic!

Hi karigupi :)

If you haven't noticed any more eggs from your C. pandas, they might be eating them. They are also good at hiding them on the plants, so look carefully. Since they spawn frequently and produce small batches it's easy to miss them.

Peppered corys (C. paleatus) are often egg eaters too. You might want to try to move the pandas into a tank of their own without plants. They will spawn readily on metal thermometers which can then be removed for hatching. I've had good luck doing it this way.

Hi lilacamy931 :)

They are just inexpensive thermometers that are common in lfs around here. I found an ad that has the brand name for you. I hope this helps.

Thanks loads :good: The glass thermometers are super cheap but general stop working after a while..Thanks so much Inchworm xx

sorry for not updating, its been chaos here with christmas & birthdays, glad its all over phew!

I ended up with just the 2 eggs, I had to put them in with the peppered eggs, I think all of them hatched so will have to wait until they are a bit bigger to say if I definately have panda babies.

Thats a great tip about the metal thermometer, thank you, will hunt a couple down, unfortunately I cannot seperate them from the other cory, at the moment, so willjust have to keep an eye & remove any eggs as soon as I seem them.

lilacamy, thank you, he is a little peppered corydora fry, about 10 days old in that pic I think.
