My 55 gal tank that i seeded with a bit of gravel from my 10 gal and filter media as well as a plant still shows no ill signs. Today is day 9

ammonia = 0
Nitrite < .1 /ml
Nitrates = 0
PH = 7.4

I have slowly been introducing the inhabitants of the 10 gal to the 55, by pecking order bottom to top. The bottom guys first. Current occupants of 55 gal

7 danios
3 clown loaches
1 blue gourami
1 paradise gourami
1 depii (still no positive id on him or info)

To be added by end of the week, if stats stay good of course

1.5" pink/albino convict
2" Jack Dempsey
3" Green Terror

I will most likely introduce these 3 all together. The paradise gourami and blue gourami may go back to the 10 gal, we will see how things go. I won't let them get hurt thats for sure :)

:huh: ermm... good luck ;)

I'm not too good on my cichlids but are these guys OK in a community set-up? :/

:)

I'd definalty watch the green terror and Jack dempsy very closely. My neighbor bought a betta last night and wanted to keep in in his big tank overnight until the dust had settled in the 5 gallon hex he bought for the betta. within 30 seconds of releasing the betta his 8" jack dempsy had swallowed it whole. this is when he called me, not before or I would have taken his betta for the night.

I wouldnt put those fish in with what you got now.....The danios will be gone soon and the others will be tortured.
I dont even thing the 3 types would be good tank mate, but I may be wrong there

You might cringe at this, but the convict, JD, GT, Deppii, and blue gourami were all in the 10 gal for about 2 months. They all got along great suprisingly. The blue gourami was king of the tank. The GT and JD definately share top pecking order now, and both bully the convict. The GT and JD are beautiful, having no nips out of their fins or any such damage. They never fight and have their own caves. Its a great marriage.

Call me barbaric but the danios were purchased to help cycle the tank if the seeding didn't work. I got them as feeders, and expect them to become feeders as my cichlids are introduced. As i said the gouramis will be moved back to 10 gal then to 20 possibly, still working this out.

Hi impur.

I suspect that your tank politics’ will change, now that the GT and JD have room to grow, and grow they will. JD's are not named after a boxer for no reason. As with all cichlids, each individual has its own personality. You may have got lucky. Only time will tell.

Best of luck

Isn't it funny how the Blue Gourami's seem to RULE the tank. I have a 55 with 4 chichlids and 2 other gouramis as well as 4 Silver Dollars and the Blue Gourami is Ruler. I have commented on him many times. Although at first I was calling him a Powder Blue Gourami because that's what the chick at the LFS told me. I started seeing pictures on this forum of "real" Powders and mine WASN'T ONE!!! I started researching and came as close as the Opaline or the Blue Gourami which are both hybrid colors of the Three Spot Gourami.

Do you have a picture of yours??? If you do please post it....I'd LOVE to see another Blue Gourami!!!! :)

Thanks
Silver

no pics yet, as i need a new battery for my camera. I will post them when i get them for sure though. This is the second blue gourami i have had. The other was with 2 oscars and he was ruler as well. People think we are crazy to put these guys with cichlids but i have never had a problem. My gourami doesn't bother anyone, and nobody comes close to bothering him, even my green terror leaves him alone. They sit in the green terrors cave sometimes together. Its rather odd, but i love him. :)
