Just Thinking Out Loud

Good luck with the job then hope you get it so you can build a amazing reef :) and show all of us ofc ;)

What lights are they? The heater will defo help! :p

OFC???

The lights are Arcadia marine blue 420 (Marine Actinic lamp) - I assume it is a usable one? He used the tank as tropical. Will still have to get white light. And he chucked in a tin of black gloss so I can re-gloss the cabinet, all a bonus :)

ofc = ofcourse :)

Learnt something new :good:

Here are first pics:

Don't know why this won't turn, sorry.

My son enjoying hide-and-seek in the cabinet. Hopefully he will understand that he can't do that once the sump goes in.

Oh, and I have started reading your journal, it is open in a tab and I read a little bit more whenever I have time. Really interesting to read someone else's journey. You are a little mad like me. Had to giggle at the 'day 2 staring at the tank for hours' bit and your excitment about living creatures. That's soooo going to be me :hyper:

Of course it's going to be you. It's all of us in this section.

Haha, love the picture with your son. Your first sump beast.

Tank looks great.

Thanks :) He was hiding in it again today. It's going to be a bummer trying to keep him out. Child locks me thinks

Well, I have finished reading the journal and learnt things along the way. Especially about the starfish, I'd love to have one but it will be one of the last things to add, when all is mature. Will venture out to your journals now and others here, but will take a while to get through all of them.

Two questions:

Any good book recommendations that cover it all? Basics / fish / invertebrates / corals

Is the light a good start and then T5 on top of that?

Thanks :)

Well, I had a bit of a blow in my LFS yesterday. I never really looked, but after asking they don't have live rock! The manager doesn't agree with it.

So, I have been looking at the net and found this here http://www.warehouse-aquatics.co.uk/marine/gravel-substrates-and-rock/fiji-grade-a-cured-live-rock-10kg-mixed-box.html 10kg for £100, is that a good price? I am aiming on getting 40kg, after their 5% discount it would be about £380. Is that a good price or can I find it cheaper somewhere else?

Or uncured: http://www.warehouse-aquatics.co.uk/marine/gravel-substrates-and-rock/fiji-grade-a-uncured-live-rock-22kg-mixed-box.html as I am planning on getting it all in one go anyway to avoid mini-cycles.

Looks like they are "awaiting stock" anyway you go about it. I would try looking up to further away LFS's and see what you can find. While it is not a terrible price, how fast is shipping? The rock will go through a mini cycle if its a long shipment. I would recommend get your rock (whichever, depends on how fast you wanna go) and sit a good 2 weeks of "pet rock" phase! After ammonia goes down your ready to add CUC and a shrimp (if you want).

Thanks, Tyler. I found this afterwards, it's even cheaper: http://www.cityaquaticscardiff.co.uk/marine-products/live-rock/premium-fiji-live-rock-40kg-cured?zenid=ngmkiqq2j4ip88k1pjdphc1746 It would be next day delivery, would that be ok? To be honest, I will have to wait so long until I can set it up anyway, I am happy to let it cycle for a week or two or even three once the rock is in so if a day shipment is fine, then I'll go with that.

Looks good to me. If you can wait then no biggy. Just make sure you are home for the delivery. Don't want your rock rotting in the sun.

Whoop whoop! I just got the job! This means I will earn more than enough money to fund my beautiful reef. YAY!!!! :D  :fun: :hyper:

Thanks :) It's going to be such a long wait til September, but now I can plan properly without any doubts of how to afford it. I still can't believe the amount I am going to be earning. Eeek :hyper: This is too much to grasp at the moment.
