...someone were going to upgrade thier tank for the first time and were looking for tips/plans of action for how to go about/the order of things when swapping stuff over from one tank to another....

what advice would you, the experienced marine fish and coral keeper, give to someone who hasn't done this before? :hey:

Now, this (possibly fictional) not-so-experienced marine coral and fish keeper who may find themselves in the above situation, just might have extensive experience of upgrading freshwater/brackish tanks, so may not be completely dumb, but if it were you assisting someone like that, I think it would be really nice if you could share some tried and tested advice and tips for those who may soon be in a state of panic at the thought of perhaps moving everything from - just say - a 90L nano tank to a bigger 130L not-so-nano tank. Don't you? B-) :shifty:

To recap...I know someone close to me who's soon to be upgrading their tank and would very much like to pick people's brains on how they went about doing that sort of thing

Thankyou

Woohoo Jenny is getting another tank!! :)

Can you set the new tank up first or do you have to move the current tank to make space for the new one?

First and foremost consider a sump and the plumbing to and from it.
May seem like nothing now or perhaps your saying to yourself I'm not going to bother with a sump. Believe me from experience its best to have one and its best to make arrangements now rather than later.

I am getting the RSM 130 :hyper: I'm excited about it and have to say I hadn't thought about a sump for it. I know it's a 'plug n play' design and I am reading up about the mods that these tanks may benefit from, as I did with my D-D tank before I bought it.

I have now got a rough plan of what I need to do when the actual swap round takes place. Sadly I have to move the current tank to make way for the new one so can't have them running consecutively

I am thinking about getting the extra LR and putting it in a tub with a heater and a circulation pump for as long as poss before it is needed for the new tank (getting it second hand next weekend). Would that help things along? Would I have to do anything else for the LR while it's in a tub?

If you could have some light over the tub it will minimize photosynthetic organisms from dying off. Keep an eye on evaporation. You could do the same for your current tank when you are ready to move it. Put your inhabitants in tubs in a similar way.

Wow.
When I said you needed more tanks I was joking.
I thought I was bad!
Carnt wait to see it develop.

im so jealous its not even funny

 I will share my adventure with you via photos...will that help? :D

kj23502...I hadn't thought about lighting (in my blind excitement)...thanks :D

You won't want to have full daylight schedule. I'd say about 4 or 5 hours a day would be enough for lighting. If there is to much light then algae can get a hold. Would the new lr be cured or not?

Deffo cured :D

I misread your comments ad thought you said the 'algae can get a cold' :| I SO need to put my specs on :nerd:

lol yur funny :)

Then about 4-5 hours a day should be good. Let's see if anyone has any other comments on that, but that's what I think.

I can't put pics up yet as I'm not picking it up til next weekend

I am rather excited though and have been dreaming about it already :ninja:
