We have a 25 US gallong tank with 5 barbs (3 green & 2 reg tiger), 1 female beta, 1 dwarf gourami, & 1 scissor tail.

One of the green tigers is bigger and has had some of his/her (?) tail bitten off. It won't mix in with the other 4 either - really keeps to himself and kinda stays in one place unless it is being chased.

I'm not sure what to do about that?

I am happy to have found this website, my husband and I have so much to learn.

ever consider the betta being the agressive one in the tank?

I am not too sure, but my betta always nips on my other fish, especially Siverdollars.
So in the end, my betta gets a room all to himself.

:hi: to the forum.

I would think it's the tiger barbs causing the problem. They usually should be kept in groups of 8 or more. Otherwise they tend to pick on each other too much, or harass the other fish. Also, they will almost definately attack the betta. Tiger barbs are fin nippers and I don't think there's a Tiger barb alive that can resist a betta's long fins.

I have been observing them a lot and I see that it is one tiger barb going after all the other barbs, but in particular the bigger green tiger (who was by itself until I added more).

Will it's tail grow back?

The betta pretty much keeps to herself, so far anyway.

I just hate to see a fish so isolated and obviously nervous.

I am really enjoying them though!

Oh, and in a small 3 gallon tank we have 3 platys - 1 male, 2 female. One is pregnant and probably going to drop very soon!!

And then we have another 3 gallon tank with 2 gold fish that are HUGE! My sister gave us her tank as she was not taking proper care of them. So we sorta rescued them! LOL

And then we have a male betta, beautiful in colour - blue with pink edges.

I was thinking of taking the 3 platys and adding them to the big tank....what do you think?

PS...I appreciate the responses! :)

For the platies, I would say move them in, and put the betta in the 3g. The fish people most commonly have bettas fight with are livebearers, and fin nippers. It won't work, especially not longterm. The platies also need more room than 3 gallons.

The green tiger's tail should come back, assuming it's not just bitten off again. If you're really worried, try getting some melafix.

The goldfish... I know this isn't really on topic, but do you have any bigger tank you could put them in? If they're common goldfish, they'll need something like 60g a fish. If they're fancies, the general rule of thumb is 20g for the first goldfish and 10g for each additional goldfish.

Also, goldfish need lots of filtration. They are very messy fish and have a high bioload. I would say your best bet is to bring them to a fish store.
