The pond I just started building is 10'x7'x3.5'. My questions is how many koi can I keep in there, and what length? There will also be some turtles in there, is that a threat to the koi's life?
Hello Issac, your pond is about 1837 gallons. This can hold (12) 2 foot koi at 150 gallons each, or (7) 3 foot koi at 250 gallons each. Depending on how big you get your koi and how big the turtles are there might be a problem. So long as the koi are bigger than the turtles by alot they should be ok.
How do you calculate the amount of gallons your tank holds? It's sorta weird shaped, because my pond is ovalish, and there is a deeper middle than the rest. I wonder how I will calculate the amount of gallons that the tank holds.
Well, try your best to stake out a rectangle inside any oddly shapped pond. take the Length X Width X Average depth X 7.5 = Volume of the pond. How excatly it works I am not sure, but it does. I'll find some links to online pond calculators, though some give different but fairly close answers (within 30-40 gallons).
