i shouldn't say sold, more gave. i took them to the lfs because they were nipping and stressing out my other fish to the point one died! i was a little sad to see them go.after i get my ph down i am getting gyuppies and 2 more platys.
my other platy now has the whole tank to swim in.
has anyone else had trouble with angels? should thet have at least given me a store credit? i mean these were fairly large angels. anyway i think he is just going to kill them because shouldn't he have float them in the tank the moment they got there? he just put them on the counter and kinda looked at us like saying "time to go now". suspicious :shifty: . poor fish!wish me luck with my new fish!

I am sorry to hear about your angel troubles. My only remaining angel is getting quite old and it will be my last. I like how they look but not how they treat my other fish. Your statement about getting your pH down concerns me. Is the pH very high? Platies and guppies do best with pH in the 7.0 to 8.0 range but can easily live outside that range. If you are manipulating the pH it's probably time to stop. Both of the fish also prefer somewhat hard water which of course goes with the higher pH.

angels can be agressive but generally if they are given a decent sized tank and suitable companions they won't cause any trouble. the usual recommended minimum tank size for angels is something like 20/30 gallon tall tank. i think a lot of people experience agression issues keeping them in tanks of this size, stick them in a 50/60 gallon tank and you'll really see the difference.

About the ph, it was way over the limit for guppies and platys.

pH is not a problem as long as it's stable is the most important thing.

My angel is in a 120 MW. It has been there for years now but is rough on the smaller fish. My tastes run to endlers, platies and pygmy cories so an angel just doesn't fit in well. Even my egg layers are things like harlequin rasboras, black neons, sparkling gouramis and similar things.

well they're cichlids, all chiclids have their own personalities and temperaments so you can't really judge one by another. if you happen to have a particularly mean one i wouldn't be that suprised!!

Just on general terms though I have found they are much more sociable and tolerant of other fish when they're in a decent sized tank.

But yeah, I'd be a touch dubious of pgymy cories etc with an angel......

well the easiest way to stop angel fish from fin nipping is to keep both angelfish in a different tank separately for 6 month. Psychologically, their behavior will change and will soon quarrel amongst themselves, not bothering other fish. By putting them in a different tank you are changing their habits.I've carred out this procedure and have a 8cm angel fish with small 2cm guppies. it dosn't eat them or even chase or nip them. All of them are now in a big tank.

Whatever the original poster needed to find out has been discovered in the last 8 months AK>47.
